chainguide equals lowest part of bike

  • Could be the angle but photo's 2 and 13 it looks like the forks bending.
Photo 24 is just ploughing the track up :)

  • The wall section is death on a stick. Watching the race preamble with Carlo and "how can he sit down with balls that big" commentator guy now. Otherwise known as Rob Warner.
Interesting to see Tahnee Seagrave qualify as fastest ahead of Rachel Atherton.

  • EDIT: Spoilers, apparently.

  • brah, spoilers

  • If you choose to ride XC races and not watch live, then...

    But I'll remove the thing.

  • Men's results:

    1. Brendan Fairclough
    2. Michael Jones
    3. Josh Bryceland
  • Watched highlights vids of EWS 2016 R1 (Chile) and R2 (Argentina) last night. Music was too high in the mix, or maybe the presenter didn't Warner it enough.

  • I'm going to watch those now. Thanks for reminding me. Richie Rude is ruling it right now.

  • Just viewed the EWS highlights. Makes me want to go to South America. Like, right now.

  • GF has a desire for something lighter than her fatbike but more suitable for gnarly stuff than her race-ready Voodoo Bokor with SID forks, Crest rims and 2.0"-ish tyres.

Spotted the Dartmoor Primal Plus, tyres up to 27.5x3.0", frame only £205.
Quick session of googling, CRC, Merlin, CtBM etc... total build £1600+

Of which £1111 would be "chubby-specific": Frame Forks, Rims, Hubs.

Might have to find some cheap 135/170QR hubs and build up some b-plus wheels for the fatbike instead.

Does it have to be +? What about a Bird / Stanton / Whatever?

  • Her Genesis Caribou has given her bags of grip and confidence, but the weight's a killer, hence plus. Since getting that, the Voodoo has felt decidedly noodly, which it is, because I specced it light :-/

She had a roll round on CtBM's bike at BOTB: Vassago Ti Hardtail with Manitou Magnum Pro forks, Stans Hugo52 rims, Maxxis Chronicle 3" tyres. And Boost hubs. Fuck Boost.

The 29er version of 2016 RockShox Boost forks (SID, Reba, Pike) are listed as also doing 27.5x3.0", so they should be cheaper and easier to find.

  • I've stressed over this before. Probably bored you guys With it before too. Sorry.

But I'm building a 26" Commencal Meta SL for 'everything' use. I have a DT Swiss 313 rear shock, which I was considering running With a single Remote together With a DT swiss XMM twin shot fork. Basically you get lockout - stiff - open Control for both ends With one Remote. The fork is like 60% off at the moment.

The issue is that I've had to Mount the shock without bushings as I have 10mm bolts and the shock has 10mm eyelets (roughly). I'm not happy about this.

    Options:

    • Buy DT fork, buy Remote, hope everything is OK (There is a bearing of sorts in the shock eyelets)

    • Sell shock (its unused), buy X-fusion Slant fork, and x-fusion shock. This'll be more hassle but ultimatly cheaper. The fork is 160g heavier. But I wont have cables and Remotes.

The first option is by far the best bang for buck. Plus I can Lock stuff out on the fly, which could be great for a 'everything' bike. But I'm a simplistic soul, and frankly even I think the current shock set up is Dodge.

    HELP!

  • @Smallfurry

    1. Don't bodge a shock into your new frame.

    2. The Slant forks, with their larger diameter stanchions will surely be stiffer. They also don't state the measly 110kg rider weight limit that the DTs do. From reading about, the reliability will be better too. They do seem well made ( despite my not having ridden my Trace forks yet ).

    3. Lockouts are rubbish. They're just something to accidentally leave on when you ride a technical descent. Keep your bars relatively clean, with a gear shifter on the right and a dropper remote on the left.

    4. Don't be blinded by bargains. Build a bike that works.

    5. Don't bodge a shock into your new frame.

  • I agree with all these Things.

My fatbike is super simple. But I have a single lockout button on the lefty. I always press this at the wrong time.

  • Rear lock outs are cheap

(tuning mod for a certain race only, easy to get very wrong)

  • Looks heavy.

Do they do one in Balsa?

  • But I'm building a 26" Commencal Meta SL for 'everything' use.

    Schtaaaaap pls

  • Bit of 2x1 hammered in place :)

Some used zipties, you had to balance the amount of ties against rider weight and making sure they snapped when you hit the first small jump at speed.

trying to ride up fort william on a DH bike is not easy with all that travel..........enduro madness...

  • trying to ride up fort william on a DH bike is not easy with all that travel

My aged memory might be failing me, but the last time I was at Fort William, I'm positive they had a cable car for getting to the top of the DH track :-)

  • If it closes for wind but the session's not halted, you get an almighty traffic jam. Also the lift forces you to practice the whole track (afaik) which is useless if the commissaire switches to a shortened course due to conditions, or annoying if you only really want to practice the lower sections.

  • Had another chat about this last night.

A chunkier 26" would let her swap in her current light wheels (Olympic/XT), but only if the dropouts are 100QR and 135QR, which is quite limiting. Rotor sizes would also need to match.

    More ebay browsing expected...

  • As I totally agrree with you, I've listed the DT Swiss x313 shock.

Its £145 if anyone on here wants it I can pull the ad.

Probably replace it With one of these...
    http://www.xfusionshox.com/products/shocks/o2-series/rcx

Then get a Slant. Probably set to 130mm travel at first. See how it feels.

  • I've got a burlyish 26" wheel frame going spare. 16" with a 1.5" headtube

Same geo as a Soul but in alu. Could get away with a 130mm fork, and takes a 2.4" at the back.

I suppose the issue is finding a 100qr fork these days...

If 16" is what you are after, you can clear it out of my spares bin :)
