-
• #5353
I swear my back wheel did twice the distance that the front did!

I need another bike for mtb, I don't want to break the Cannondale.
Do you have anything in mind? -
• #5355

Any thoughts on here of the Salsa Spearfish L3?
Look at the prices: http://www.billys.co.uk/english/group.php?prod=5SA-2013Spear3&PHPSESSID=pkct0bms0312mk94dh9pbn6407

Hmm. That's even cheaper.

Yeah cba with mud. Dusty summer trails however...
This. It feels like I am doing less damage to the trails as well.
-
• #5360
Not many jumps and drop offs on bridleways though.
-
• #5361
Plenty of dumps and droppings though.

however much you're fucking up the surface you can sleep soundly knowing you're doing bugger all compared to what the horses do.
Google "soil disturbance large herbivores"; ecosystems have developed with large herbivores as part of them, and some species have come to rely on the soil churn caused by browsing and trampling to survive and propagate. From an ecological view, I think I'd be more concerned about the concrete-hard motorways of highly structured synthetic trails (e.g. Swinley*) than about some random squishing of plants and ploughing of dirt on open land.
*I'm using it to illustrate a type of trail construction; ecologically, Swinley is a great swathe of industrial monoculture, so I'm not going to shed any tears over it's partial conversion to organised leisure use.

Thinking of upgrading my forks from rockshox recon 351, but not sure what to go for. Looking for 130/40mm travel and probs AM so I feel I can go anywhere, or that they are better than I am!
Any pointers & suggestions much appriciated.

What frame is it going on?
-
• #5365
On one Inbred.
-
• #5366
Pikes?
-
• #5367
I also considered Revelations.
And a used / NOS (ya right) Lefty Max.
-
• #5368
I typed pikes before deleting and asking about the frame, pikes are only 140mm in 29er size, 150mm in 26". Revelations are nice, light too. I have revs but would have pikes next time for heavier riding.

Old coil pikes have fully adjustable travel, new ones come in dual air so can be either 150 or 120.
-
• #5370
Could make for easier climbs and more fun on the way down.
-
• #5371
They only be tapered though, so if your frame aint 1.5" compatible, they aren't for you.
Also come in 160mm flavour.
I have the Dual Position version - still in a box, as, alas, I'm still waiting for England's finest aluminum botherers to deliver some brakes and a headset to Matt / Talbot.
Hah, wouldn't it be cool if he was making me an MTB frame. Now there's an idea.
-
• #5372
(he's not)
-
• #5373
Didn't realise they were only tapered.
-
• #5374
Yah, it displeases a lot of original Pike owners.

• #5375
Old coil Pikes with the PUSH damping upgrade were the best
