NurseH - you will not enjoy Aston on your bike. Probably. Surface to air trail has lots of 3' + drops and the other trails are very steep. Something more chuckable would be more fun at Aston, but remember there is ther Xc route there too ( it's still steep)

any reasons why not?

Yes - you should get one with a Rohloff instead ;-)

^ this.

would but it jumps the build price so much for 3 extra gears, a lifetime warranty...
-

Worth it for proven reliability and peace of mind imo.
I really wish I'd bought one when they were still around £600 :-(

but from singletrackworld http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/rohloff-or-alfine-11
the consensus veers towards alfine

I think the trigger shifters swing it for most people. Gripshifters are certainly not an ideal method of shifting.
To be fair, I've not heard much said against Alfine 11 and I doubt you're about to take a fatbike on a world tour.
Doesn't Scoble have an Alfine 11?

good point.

I do think that a hub gear suits a fatbike build though - especially as they're primarily used for beach riding over here.
Trying to ride up sand dunes with an SS would be hellish!

I will be going Aston Hill soon. Just need to purchase full face and bubblewrap.

^ That Honzo of yours should do really well on those trails!
Can't speak for you though ;-)

2nded, James, get a Krampus, 29er, 3" tyres. Everything you like in one package.

What cranks to fit a 100mm shell for use with an alfine hub?
Would prefer external bb, but wondering if that would further fuck up the Q factor.
C) HUCK OF WIN!*
I don't have the bike or balls for the kind of trail which calls for a HUCK OF WIN.
