Yes, yes and yes. This is what I have always thought. However the Canyon Nerve XC and Boardman Team FS have been getting great reviews. And I'm coming round to the conclusion that I won't be improving much as a mountain biker any more, so it might be time to go with fun/comfort.
Dunno really though. Where I ride a lot is steeply up and down. With the emphasis on up. So maybe back to the plan of building up a Ragley Piglet frame.
More mulling required.
Eh? So if you're doing lots of climbing then surely a heavy steel frame with a ridiculously slack head tube is your last choice? Like wise all the pedal bob from a budget FS will be a nightmare when climbing. Would have though the carbon On One would be right up you street?

Gabe is right.
If your bike proirity is to climb start looking at XC frames with a steeper head angles and a longer stem.

If my emphasis was on up then I would absolutely be looking at the crabon On-One.

But instead you prefer to go down like the offspring of a sack of spuds and a cheap crackwhore.

Damn, I wants me a new hardtail:
Dialed bikes have always hit the right spots with me and they've made a Ti prototype of the long travel hardtail Alpine and I wants one!

Does anyone commute on their MTB thorughout the winter?
Ive just started a new job that is going to require travelling around Birmingham on and off the canals/greenways, so any advice on a decent set of tires that would suit both terrains would be really handy. Thanks a million -
• #2821
^ Yes, I have converted SS MTB that I use for my winter comuting jaunts and I have a pair of tyres that are perfect for it, pretty much flat on the top but with good tread/nodules on the side for grip in slushy icy conditions. Going from full on MTB tyres to these saved my legs quite a lot and made a huge difference to the parts that where dry / flat. Will Look for them and let you know.

Look for something with a fairly consistent central tread and good block grip on the shoulders.
-
• #2823
And they have some puncture protection I think, been good for me for 2 years of snow and slush

Webof, you and I are singing from the same sheet. Those are what I had in mind while posting but couldn't sort out a link because I was on my iPhone.
These are also quite good:

In the end, despite the cost and weight advantage of the hardtail, give both the Canyon and Boardman a try, and just go for the one you liked the handling of.
