  • In the end, despite the cost and weight advantage of the hardtail, give both the Canyon and Boardman a try, and just go for the one you liked the handling of.

  • If we can't go to swinley shall we try elsewhere?

    Try Wales.

  • cheers timmy

but not for a few hours

  • Yes, yes and yes. This is what I have always thought. However the Canyon Nerve XC and Boardman Team FS have been getting great reviews. And I'm coming round to the conclusion that I won't be improving much as a mountain biker any more, so it might be time to go with fun/comfort.

Dunno really though. Where I ride a lot is steeply up and down. With the emphasis on up. So maybe back to the plan of building up a Ragley Piglet frame.

    More mulling required.

Eh? So if you're doing lots of climbing then surely a heavy steel frame with a ridiculously slack head tube is your last choice? Like wise all the pedal bob from a budget FS will be a nightmare when climbing. Would have though the carbon On One would be right up you street?

  • Gabe is right.

If your bike proirity is to climb start looking at XC frames with a steeper head angles and a longer stem.

  • If my emphasis was on up then I would absolutely be looking at the crabon On-One.

  • If my emphasis was on up then I would absolutely be looking at the crabon On-One.

But instead you prefer to go down like the offspring of a sack of spuds and a cheap crackwhore.

  • In the true spirit of Brokeback Mountain Biking.

  • For up have a look at the focus mtbs, I love my black forest, if you can get one they are superb value for money, fox forks an xtr for under a grand last time I looked

  • Got rid of the old Pikes recently and have gone back to Fox.
A snap from a recent welsh outing:

  • Damn, I wants me a new hardtail:

Dialed bikes have always hit the right spots with me and they've made a Ti prototype of the long travel hardtail Alpine and I wants one!

  • i have an unbuilt love hate frame under the stairs gathering dust :-(
i even have a new brakeset and some forks buried somewhere too.

    bike rich/time poor.

Have I just gone back to 2007? Will the next posters on this thread be Jason and Sexpest?

  • do it for toilet duck!

if you said 4 years ago that we (those ex-chocolate foot above) were going to a gay roadie clothing brand cyclocross race to drink cappuccinos i doubt anyone would have believed it.

  • Solomanda, CF's own edscoble will be along any minute with some fascinating MTB facts.

  • you know will (willH) and dan (danW) are in Grupetto?

  • Oh how times are a changing.

And we're all decidedly middle aged.

  • except ratboy.

  • so, who wants to get muddy this weekend?

  • Does anyone commute on their MTB thorughout the winter?
Ive just started a new job that is going to require travelling around Birmingham on and off the canals/greenways, so any advice on a decent set of tires that would suit both terrains would be really handy. Thanks a million

  • ^ Yes, I have converted SS MTB that I use for my winter comuting jaunts and I have a pair of tyres that are perfect for it, pretty much flat on the top but with good tread/nodules on the side for grip in slushy icy conditions. Going from full on MTB tyres to these saved my legs quite a lot and made a huge difference to the parts that where dry / flat. Will Look for them and let you know.

  • Look for something with a fairly consistent central tread and good block grip on the shoulders.

  • These I think

And they have some puncture protection I think, been good for me for 2 years of snow and slush

  • Thanks guys,thats ace.

  • Webof, you and I are singing from the same sheet. Those are what I had in mind while posting but couldn't sort out a link because I was on my iPhone.

    These are also quite good:
