  • The Boa strap is promising, although it could do with being slightly shorter as it overlaps enough to stop it tightening up quite as much as I'd like. The bag is, I suspect, going to be as waterproof as a teabag, but will do for testing. I think a tool-roll type thing will be much better (potentially the one mentioned up-thread), although I may ask @Tijmen if he'd be good enough to make me both strap and roll when I've narrowed down what I want from said arrangement a little more.

  • What is that bike stand?

  • They are great bikes. I had a first generation Flare which I loved unti it was stolen.

That cable routing was always a pain.

  • Details in the bike storage thread

  • Oh that is neat, thank you!

  • That cable routing was always a pain.

The early ones had external routing down the seat stay, handy for them to change it.

  • Merlin are doing 203mm TRP R1 rotors for less than £10, if having thicker rotors was of interest to you

  • Damn it @Dammit! doesn’t appear available here.

  • I’m not well versed in TRP brakes but do want 2.3mm in 220mm

    Are these rotors still unrealesed?

I’ve read folk talking about them as the new rotor but my google-fu fails me.

I’m hoping they will be cheaper than the fancy brakestuff/trickstuff ones with a million holes in them.

  • Not seen them available anywhere yet. BikeInn have the Galfer Shark ones nearly half price (still £100+ a set) right now, but not 220

  • thanks, hadn't realised those shark ones had been released. I already run 2.0mm 220 rotors but keen to try 2.3mm with my cascade calipers to try find that mysitcal zero dead stoke that I want.

  • Magura rotors? Lacking the final 0.3mm but they’re closer than normal ones, and available in 220 (which is what I have on the front of my enduro bike).

  • Had a fun day in a bikepark today and was wondering why my derailleur felt strange at the end of the day...

  • Does anyone know if Shimano jockeys with the same amount of teeth (12 and 14t) will fit on this microshift Ardent-X derailleur? It's quite hard to find the original ones

  • Still vacillating about my mountain biking trip for the first week of September- does anyone have any experience of the weather in Japan around Fujiten and Fujimi resorts?

  • (Opinions vary amongst my colleagues, some of whom say September is tornado season and it would be insane to go, others say it’d be fine).

  • The Voile wins.

  • The Austere buckle is a thing of beauty- but it really poses the question as to why it’s matched to such a cheap feeling length of webbing. The quality of the buckle deserves a much nicer and more detailed strap, I think anyway.

The slot in the plate that mounts to the frame is wide enough to get the widest strap pictured in easily, so I have some slight concerns about the much narrower Voile strap staying in place- but it’s high friction rubber surface may provide sufficient grab that that is not an issue.

I’ve decided on heading to Japan- YOLO etc

I'm expecting a big bucket load of photos!

  • I think they use polyester webbing as although it feels cheaper than nylon, it stretches a lot less so it’s more durable in the long run. They do pride themselves on rigorous testing, so if you asked them i’m sure they’d have a very detailed answer.

  • That’s interesting. What I was thinking was that it’d be good to see rubberised strips on the underside, but then maybe high friction isn’t desirable in some applications.

Anyway- I’ll probably put a couple of the Austere straps in the enduro bag for emergencies.

  • What are the forum recommendations for lightweight knee pads? Pedalling comfort and cooling are priority. I'm new to the suspension-world and thinking I should upgrade from my road kit.

  • Sweet protection are pretty good and can often be found on sale. The Rapha ones get a positive review

  • I have been happy with POC oseus knee and elbow protection.
