Wanted a bike to dick about on the pump tracks on for a while, but given current circumstances this couldn't have come up at a worse time.

Located in Twickenham?
Two bikes in the back is probably pushing it though and I’m about to start the drive home. -
• #26404
It’s in SE23 I’m afraid

I’ve got 8 hours driving ahead. I’ll use the time to think about how to justify coming back down at some point. Perfectly reasonable.

Run a non-boost chainring (+6mm offset) if you frame/crank setup allows - will give you a much better chainline in relation to the centre of your cassette.

Looking at the technical drawings of the EE Wings that looks fine from that perspective, I’d have to have a look at the frame to see if I can spot a potential issue there.

Ok, here's the EE Wings (which I just ordered in 165mm flavour):

Here is what I assume is the important bit:

So I'll do what measuring I can on the frame to see what a 49mm chainline would mean (if anything) in terms of conflict with parts of said frame.

Email from Dan Roberts this morning, which was quite exciting. He advises sticking to the 3mm in order to avoid any potential issue.

The forward for Dartford FC?! Wow.

I’d also point out that with this spider I am going to be riding fixed again- coming full circle.

• #26415
Fixed mtb?
-
• #26416
Yep

Specifically fixed 160mm enduro bike.

Having watched someone descend a blue trail fixed, skidding the berms as we observers laughed, I'm interested in this omega to alpha moment?
-
• #26419
It should be, if anything, safer and grippier than non-fixed.

What happens when one is the air? Do you pedal really fast (learning to drive with non synchro gearboxes one has to match speed with ratios)?
Edit to add.. I'm in awe if you can do this
-
• #26422
Nope, you keep your feet still.
-
• #26423
Don't know if you just go really fast all the time and fly over everything, but stuff with loads of roots or similar will be awkward with the cranks fixed?

If you watch the video I posted all shall be explained

Its only fixed at the hub, the freehub is moved to the spider.
I get the idea behind it, and I've seen eeebers ziptie their cassette to the spoke for the same non-pedalling shifting effect. What I'm not convinced about is whether it actually makes suspension work better. I can make pedal kickback happen off the bike, but on the bike have never felt it. The cassette tends to be able to move forward with the wheel on compressions, just look at the Pinkbike huck to flat videos and you can see the chain never really gets tight at the top.
Yeah, PBJ is steel.
It's this one.
