  • Oh! what was the problem?

  • Pace supplied my 295 with DMR Death-Grips, the name of which was actually pretty accurate - but not, I think, in the way that DMR intended.

In moments of high dynamic load (the red-run at Morgins downhill park) the grips would rotate on the bars, which meant that no matter what you tried to do you could not control the bike precisely. This, in the Alps, was terrifying.

I tried everything I could think of, repeatedly cleaning the bars and the grips with Isopropyl alcohol and fitting everything precisely according to the instructions, but they kept rotating.

I contacted DMR to tell them about this, offered to post them in the grips so they could take a look at them to find out why this had happened, and as I said - they could not have been less interested, and to put a stop to the conversation (as it was clearly boring them) suggested that I'd probably bought fakes anyway.

I put a fairly high premium on grips staying where they're meant to, and my current Renthal grips do just that. But that aside, if your signature product is dangerously bad I'd expect a tiny bit of interest - not the case with DMR.

  • Sounds like a unique problem, usually filed under user error.

But a bit shite that they didn't give you the benefit of the doubt though.

I have some you can have if you want.

  • The Renthal grips I now have are perfect, the DMR's went in the bin, problem solved.

  • I would have had them :(

  • Who owns the Time Machine now? Just saw it in the window at LMNH

  • Still me, I need to go and get it

  • I would have had them :(

You could re-create the effect by removing your current grips, greasing your handlebars, then reinstalling said grips.

  • I can't remove mine (death grips) cos they're stuck 😅

  • Weird, my Deathgrips have been nothing short of amazing. I tried some Hope ones previously, and imagine the effect you're describing, but it's your hand spinning around the grip. They were shocking.

  • The common feedback is that Death Grips do grip - it's why I was surprised that they were so awful, and why I thought DMR might be interested in taking a look at them. Could it have been a manufacturing error? If so, I'd have wanted to know.

I offered to post the grips in, DMR said to just chuck them in the bin.

  • Anyone running a Cane Creek rear shock and care to comment on it?

  • From this point on, there's really only EXT

  • Or maybe that Allen Millyard thing, with 10,000,000 psi in it

  • Lol thread

  • Kind of interested in the Cane Creek shock because it's really, really difficult to get to the rebound dial on my DHX. The Cane Creek puts all the controls up top.

  • I've got an Air IL and Coil IL. Considering how much you love tinkering with tuning, they're ideal for that.
The Air IL felt great after a TF Tune service, but probably because every seal and even the air can was replaced due to scratching (they suspected side-loading)
The Coil has been impeccable so far, tuning it has a more noticeable effect compared to the Air, I've found anyway

  • My only gripe is the adjustment dials feel sometimes like it's very easy to undo them past their open setting. I do actually like the fact that you can't keep fucking around with them as easily on a trail though, having to use an Allen key instead of a built-in dial makes you really consider if there's an actual problem with how the shock is performing, or if it's just an excuse for your own poor riding skills. Tends to always be the latter.

    Shots fired

  • ducks

  • Your shocks are performing fine

  • What if they'd said "squats"?

  • Maybe more low speed compression is required
