bollocks sorry dammit.
guess you need to move the other stuff for a bit and make more secure

Damn! This sucks!
Do you think you may have been targeted?? Worth maybe moving the rest of your bikes somewhere else in case they come back? -

bummer :(

100% it was targeted, they went straight to our garage, no looking around first - and ours is one in a row of 16, same door and so on. They went straight to the lock, only Fenella shouting at them out of the window stopped them opening the door within seconds of turning up.
They walked off, then waited for us to move away from the window and came back, had the lock off in seconds, door up, bike out, and they were off - whilst I was running down the stairs.
Both cameras that cover the garages had been pushed against the wall so were not covering the area.
I've moved all the other bikes.

There were two of them, and loads of bikes in there - but they only took one. I'm guessing they were after the mountain bikes (sorry, classic steel Serotta road and cross bikes!), and luckily the front wheel was out of my Pace hardtail, in a black wheel bag - I think that saved it.

Death to bike thieves!
I'll keep an eye out

• #22834
I wonder if they followed you home from Swinley
-
• #22835
Must be something like that ^ given that there isn't any passing traffic.
I wouldn't be surprised if they'll be back for the others now. In the night, when you're out -
• #22836
Hard to know. I work on the bikes outside the garage, with the door open - and even though we're a dead end at the top of a hill we have a surprising number of passers by. We've also had something of a mini-crime wave recently.
This is the block opposite us:

Yeah, deffo sounds like you’ve been targeted then! The fact they opened a combination lock so quickly is also pretty worrying.
It’s a good job you spotted them, otherwise
They would have cleaned you out for
Sure.Is fitting a roller shutter door an option in your garages?
-
• #22839
The new ones, yes - is a roller shutter the most secure type of door?
-

I've been thinking about this, and I just don't think they'd spend ~2 hours following me around the M25, through London etc, and if they did do so, that I'd not spot them.

• #22841
That's a real fucker, hope it turns up quickly. Can you set up a sly camera or two in case they come back for seconds?
-
• #22842
Don't get carried away if you plan on taking action if they come back for seconds. A mate of mine caught someone trying to steal his motorbike and he got a bit spiteful with a golf club and is currently awaiting trial. Worst case he could be looking at 10 months

• #22843
We have CCTV - the cameras that cover the garages had been knobbled.
-
• #22844
Extra one in the garage, even one of those bird spotting type things and a temporary webcam from the window you mentioned?
-
• #22845
I'll definitely look into it. I'm going to be outfitting the new garages in '22 and they'll feature a ground anchor and mighty chain for each bike.

Sorry to hear about the bike, Neil. Thieving little shits
Is it wise for us to be advertising on a public forum where we keep our expensive bikes, and what security measures are in place?
-
• #22848
Really sorry to hear this, Neil. Its my worst nightmare and the main reason that I keep most of my bikes in the house rather than the garage.
A chap in in a town a couple miles down the road from me had his garage cleaned out, Santa Cruz v10, Tallboy and Megatower all nicked in one go by tinks on mopeds in broad daylight with multiple witnesses.Almost certainly targeted, perhaps these cunts have seen you working on your bikes outside the garage at some point. Like BareNecessities says, it makes me wonder about posting too much info about my bikes and their location.
-
• #22849
Yeah, I used to do that - then started to move them into the garage, and ultimately moved all but two there. Mountain bikes take up an awful lot more room than a track or road bike.
I'm going to go to town on security for the new garages, been reading articles like this today.
So a very secure door, plus a chain per bike, and a camera that records straight to the cloud with probably an alarm.
-
• #22850
If they have to spend time angle grinding through a hardened steel chain whilst the alarm goes off and footage of them is being recorded off-site and the police are inbound I'm hopeful that they'll put my garage into the "too much bother" bucket.
wow that is shit!
