  • Thanks for being the voice of reason. I had wondered why cranks and pedals aren't fitted if they are included as described. I've asked a few questions and the short reply hasn't instilled much confidence, I'm a believer in 'buy' the seller, as well as what they're selling. Thanks for all the help

  • It's a minefield! I managed to pick up a Cotic Solaris Max for £1600 in A1 condition, and just seeing the advert with it cleaned to within an inch of it's life and 15 pictures made it a much easier decision.

I generally prefer Pink Bike classifieds to ebay as a bit like here, you can scout out the seller more easily and old stuff they've sold. This may be too big/expensive - but think they are reliable sellers / might do you a deal. https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3090888/

  • Not so secretly glad that's an extra large, mainly for my bank balance. That ad definitely instils a bit more confidence I agree.

  • I am considering buying a trail bike. Possibly full sus. I’d prefer Shimano brakes because I don’t want to have to have different brake fluid and bleed kits. More a fun than a race bike. Rather go for something mid range and then build myself some nicer wheels as an upgrade further down the line. Is this actually much like road bikes where you just pick the one you think is least ugly at your price point?

  • Get Magura brakes you coward.

  • I want to ride a bike with working brakes I can service myself. Successfully

If you listen to MTB marketing then no, you absolutely must buy the latest and greatest for the most enhanced suspension travel mouth feel
but in reality, yes just buy and ride something you like which fits good. Immediately fit a dropper post in the unlikely event that it doesn't come with one and then immediately stop looking at all other new MTBs online and enjoy riding what you got.

  • Then buy a 180mm enduro bike with AXS.

  • pick the one in stock

  • As I'm sure you're aware finding one in stock is likely going to be your biggest obstacle at the moment. Also if you're at the bottom end of mid-range then you may be better off with a hardtail, suspension is expensive, kind of depends on your budget

  • £2-3k ish

Dropper is something i would definitely want. My old xc 29er can’t take one or I’d just use that.

  • I think this is like buying hifi

Get something and then just enjoy it until parts break and then replace the parts.

  • My old xc 29er can’t take one or I’d just use that.

I've got an external routed dropper on my bike just coz it's what came up on ere at the time.
No fancy cable routing required. Fits like a normal seatpost.

  • The issue is mine is 27.2 seat post and I tend to require setback too. This eliminates any dropper post for that bike

I did ask Ted James about modifying it but it’s not a good idea -it’s a ti frame with a shim bonded in but it’s likely the seat tube needs the shim as a reinforcement so remove it and the seat tube is not strong enough

If you’re in a hurry Bird seem to have at least some stuff in stock and let you choose pretty much everything individually so you can build to the spec you want.

  • Cant go wrong with a Nukeproof Reactor Comp 29 for that money. My first real MTB since graduating from a 26" hardtail and its worlds apart.

  • Les Gets XCO course looks nuts.

  • mid summer epping forest

recent rains have kept the dust levels down

  • Anybody have some spare brakes to sell? Relatively budget

  • Maguras, look like mt 5. You can have the set for 30 quid. They need barbs, olives, and a bleed.
Edit: will come with magura 6 bolt rotors.

  • They need barbs, olives, and a bleed

I know a man who can do this

  • This is what happened to me. While dithering about frame size I had a shimano equipped bird aether in my shopping basket. However as of today they have no shimano cassettes and their OEM contract is to sell complete bikes so they can’t sell the bike without the cassette.

So Brexit/covid has forced me to go for a sram axs group set. #timeforaroundofgolf

    You rang?

I think he meant someone else, you still seem to be struggling with yours
