  • Rock Shox Tora 318 or something on the Giant. No longer rebounding properly. Assume need complete rebuild.

Alternative to complete rebuild is replace...

What’s the best value 26” suspension fork? Clearly I don’t expect the world, because I don’t want to pay much.

  • What steerer length do you need? I have a Sid XX but steerer is too short for my bike. It's only 165 mm.

  • Just went and measured. The current steerer has loads of risers, but I could get a riser stem or live without them, and 165 would just squeeze on. Not ideal but if it was dirt cheap I’d consider it.

  • Hmm, not really dirt cheap ofcourse. And it's disc only.

I also have a dual air reba race in good condition (disc and v brake) with lockout. Asking 70 € posted to the UK.

  • Any recommendations for 40mm rise bars? Or anyone got some for sale? Not wanting to spend to much.

  • Wow a Canyon with some charisma.

  • Renthal do 38mm - and they're gold

  • I have Spank 50mm risers on one bike, no complaints. Spank seem to do higher rise bars than the rest of the brands so worth having a look at their other bars.

Nukeproof have these bars in 38mm rise at £35. Whats your budget? shopping around second hand and you can get carbon renthal bars for £40-£50

  • Thanks for the link, budget is up to £50 I was looking at spank as well, they seem to be good value. Not sure I want to go second hand carbon, Planet X have some Selcof ones at £49, so maybe that is an option. Just don’t know if Budget carbon is better than Alu bars.

  • Yeah I understand second hand carbon hesitation. For what its worth I run second hand RaceFace SixC carbon bars on a nomad 4 thats set up like a mini dh bike and I haven't died. Yet.

I assume that you're really after high rise 40mm bars? I have loads of alu bars in the parts bin that you can have for very cheap but I don't think any are as high as 40mm more like 20mm

  • What makes Renthal so good? They always seem to be at the top end price wise. Are they worth the extra ££?

  • My spank bars are spike vibrocore model, second hand I think I paid £35 for them so worth having a look on ebay etc
Hard to say if the vibrocore really has much of an effect, could just be a sort of confirmation bias. But it was really for the huge rise to make bike a bit more playful

  • I have 20 on already, thanks for the offer, but the back is becoming less and less flexible, so thought I’d give 40 a go as the next step. My thinking in that could also be wrong, but it’s the easiest step to make now.

  • Are they worth the extra ££?

probably not imho, just a moto-x brand premium that folk like. I have renthal carbon bars and cant tell the difference in feel to raceface bars on other bike. Maybe other folk are more sensitive but I dont think theres really much between mtb bars...

Just get ones that you think look cool, have high enough rise and don't cost too much.

edit - just get cheapish alu ones if its to experiment with getting a comfier position!

  • What makes Renthal so good?

    They're gold

  • Made a couple of miles from me too, that's got to be worth a few quid.

  • What makes Renthal so good?

    They're gold

    They're gold

  • Mine are black

    fml

  • Were they on offer or something?

  • They're the BN edition.

  • I've got a Continental Trail King in a 29 x 2.4 if someone wants to give me £10 for it?

  • BN edition

    Black Noir?

  • I tried the Endura flat-pedal overshoes today, I've not got huge plates of meet (UK 10) but almost had to take a run-up to get the l-XL overshoes on. Once on however they were very unobtrusive and paired with my MT500 onesie I was bone dry despite riding through a very large number of puddles.

Getting out of the whole getup is actually the biggest challenge, because it's covered in wet mud, but that's certainly a nicer issue to deal with than having a soaking wet arse for the drive home/getting changed whilst standing on an old Sainsburies bag in the middle of the carpark.

  • I saw this on internet with claims of it working perfectly. Looks cool.
