It's just a different setup of bike for a different type of riding for a different person. nothing to understand.

bundles of fun today with owain, john (hendrik), ben (unharmed)
john clearly has a great deal of experience and battered us all with his ss hardtail 26er
great fun in swinley
awesome stacks from all of us except john, owain stuck on his back riding australian style begging for help was hilarious
my arse over tit stack onto my head and shoulder was equally foolish, huge bruising to shoulder and mild concussion, thankfully it happened at the end of the day.
great to go over some bits a few times and notice how we all improved on each visit
my final attempt at the corkscrew and did not even need to put a foot down
the lookout had a lower chav factor, but i did get sexually molested by a 4 year old
was queuing for a coffee and suddenly felt a hand run up my thigh and was very shocked to discover the age of the person it belonged to
hope these will become regular sessions - just need to check on the state of my shoulder for next week
johns knowledge of the terrain meant we spent a lot more time on singletrack than fire roads this time
Do you double space because you are expecting feed back? Maybe comments on how to improve your post, spelling corrections, red crosses and green ticks e.t.c.

I think its because he predominently posts from i phone.
but, drops on mtbs,?
for a rider that wants to race fire trails, or other terrain with little or no technicality,
can see that. -

I'm so tired.

Apologies to the forum for breaking James. I think I need to change my advice about that route to - if you touch the brakes at all coming down the slope then don't do the drop off 'cos you won't make it!
Why would you apologies for breaking James? he does need some breaking into.

Thanks though, guys. Had a fucking awesome day. Looking forward to the next.

I am fucked. Shoulder is just getting worse and worse, absolute agony. Will see how it feels in the morning.
Also v tired but satisfied, it was a huge laugh and great fun to ride with you all.
Thank you Owain for making sure I got home in one piece.

I assume you mean breaking in. The small child was making a fair attempt at breaking into him though...

I prefer to think of it as him wanting feedback.

can see that. It's not for me, but neither is riding a 6" full sus round southern England for me either and you see a fair few people on bike like that which is even more crazy in my eyes. Different bike for a different riding for a different person.

Good points. Short snappy to the point.
Bad points. Lack of punctuation and capitalisation. With my poor English I should not be doing this.

Re drop handlebar mountain bikes. They have indeed been around for a while. I'm sure I saw someone doing one of the Gorrick races on one a couple of years back.
:]
Drop bars have been used on mountain bikes since they were first invented.
Google Charlie Cunningham, or Jaquie Phelan...or years later, even John Tomac.
WTB dirt drops were the first good purpose built drops for off road...decades before On-one or salsa mass produced them.Kids these days! :]

any pics of recent outings ?You'd be welcome. I don't think we did any "black" runs. We did do one bit that John described as "fairly technical" but I don't know what that means in the scheme of things.
This trip was my first time off-roading and I found it all quite do-able and heaps of fun.

Hoping to make it a Saturday jaunt next weekend
This depends on shoulder, as road cycling is going to require much less upper body.
Currently waiting in a&e for doctors assessment
Still have a headache and guessing I have torn a ligament in my shoulder but probably best to wait for professional diagnosis.
+1 give me a pair of carvy super wide risers on a dirt bike any day
(cant wait to hear an 'expert' view on why drops work on mtbs.....)
