Very nice spec and they're lovely bikes. Needs to be £1500 tops though.

I'm utterly perplexed by the vibe on the forum of late for uphill antics (cc: Dammit's mtb spending thread).
Do people actually take up mountain biking to go uphill? Isn't that what road bikes are for? Surely climbs are just an inconvenient necessity to facilitate sick downhills? Is everyone else here racing XC (the only discernible reason for putting thought in going uphill quicker...)
What gives?

My thoughts too

Also necessary when adventuring... unfortunately.

It’s got a big 36 bolted to it - uphill isn’t really it’s bag!
I love a good climb, me, but I’d rather do it on my World Cup spec 100mm travel plastic race bike :)

I enjoy climbs more than the ups...

I prefer tech climbs over plain old athletic climbs, but then I do ride 4" tyres most of the time...

More to the point, when did mountain biking only become about climbing and descending? You can climb on any bike short of a full on DH rig these days, it's traversing flatter stuff where burly long travel hardtails and enduro trucks are going to be pants.
The Starling is rad and that's some high spec kit, but I can't see @platypus bikepacking on it...
And it's probably misaligned ;)

If you actually ride in the real world you have to go up and along as well as down! Sometimes a trade off is worth it.

You coming then?

If you put a smaller shock in you could get two frame bags in the triangle. Then weld 19 bottle cage mounts to the underneath of the downtube. Hmmm.
