Right, I am now the proud owner of a Whyte T130 C RS. It has SRAM 12 speed and guide brakes.
What chain do I need? I don't want to wear out the £300 cassette.
Any recommendations on brake pads?

These are...'bangin'. Good choice.

SRAM say the most expensive chain they do does the least harm to the cassette.
Personally I've had good results with using whatever KMC makes sold at £20 and changing the chain every 200 - 300 miles or so.
Any recommendations on brake pads?
Uber or Superstar or whatever really.

Might do just go the KMC route.

£300 gets you one of these fashionably slack, long hooligan-like hardtail frames from Sonder. 650b with room for 2.8" at the back, designed for a 150mm travel fork.

Coz I always wanted to try one.
Edit: From what I understand of the suspension design (high single pivot, rearward wheel path when the suspension is active, unreal tracking of the ground) combined with the Pinion gearbox (12 speed, mass centrally located in the frame, lowering of the unsprung mass) combines to produce perhaps unreal handling.
Rear suspension makes the air shock work better than a coil and is lighter. If you Chuck the rear wheel into the ground after lifting the back end up it velcros to the ground. Never seen anything like it.
Had one ride on it so far. No discernable brake jack, seems to maintain tracking whilst even pulling progressively harder on the rear brake, no skidding, no skipping across the ground. Took it on some proper janky, rocky tech trails.
The bike does so much differently (but better) to what I'm used to it's going to take me the full week just to ride it 40%.
