  • Remembers when people would sew two tyres together and cut & shut two rims together for fat bikes :)
The good old days of the Pugsley running 2 x135mm hubs so you could interchange in case of drive fail are long gone with the race to get the fattest tyres and suspension forks.
Marketing types took over there :)
Check out the Hub spare parts prices and well anything to do with super wide fat bike prices.... :)

  • Shimano bolts come with those because the adapter changes the angle of the caliper, so the bolts are no longer perpendicular to the tab

  • I'm sorry, you've lost me there

  • That frame looks like it's designed for 29+ wheels, the clearances and chainstay are enormous.

Edit: oic, it's a fat bike frameset. Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole personally.

  • Interesting. Why? It's light and fits whatever tyre/wheel size you want.

  • q-factors on fat bikes, and other things, they used to be simple.

  • Geometry designed to make 26x5" tyres not suck is not necessarily going to make for fun riding with other wheels, fat bike standards/q factor is a pain in the ass, I wouldn't trust a fork dropout with a massive gouge in it, and it looks awful.

Honestly I'd buy the Marin with a 100mm front fork and get the Deore/Halo/Hope hub CTBM suggests on the product page, it's not really a big deal imo

  • woooooza!! :)

  • Hahaha! Excellent.

    Edit:

get the Deore/Halo/Hope hub CTBM suggests

Yes, if the £20 141 mm deore was available it'd be a no-brainer (CTBM says he might have been mistaken as he can't find it anymore). Sinking a £170 hope rear hub into a £149 frame seems a bit much.

  • secondhand china carbon = creaky mess

  • Wait, am I made of secondhand China carbon then?!

  • haha! no, just finely crafted steel

  • Winning at eBay. How often do you come across a tiny yet proportional-looking single speed 29er with proper sliding dropouts and surprisingly modern reach and geometry numbers for two hundred quid?

Bit of a strip down and a fresh Salsa CroMoto Grande fork and I reckon it's going to be a bit fun.

  • Anyone got a SRAM 10 speed mech they want shot of, longer cage preference....?

  • Any strong opinions either way in the 2018 Brother Big-bro? Looks quite adaptable now it's using a tapered headtube.

  • I have a medium cage apex

  • ah too slow! just bought a new GX. thanks though!

  • The GX will be better

  • hope so. looking forward to finally getting my bike fixed.

  • and it looks awful

Seller is rapidly approaching the £350 mark (posted). Starting to get ridiculous. Will sleep on it but likely get it and use the hubs to build up a 29+ wheelset eventually.

  • cheap used MTBs are false economy because 9/10 times they don't work. Tru Fax.

  • tiny trek

    Nice find!

  • Unless they're SS rigid.

  • That's the 1 out of the 10
