the kind of trail that they'll make me ride when I'm in hell!
Endless Claypit Hill climbs for me.

This would be true for 98% of mountain bikers on the planet. How extreme that trail is cannot be overemphasised from a technical point of view.
I'm 100% sure that I would be walking the majority of the trail if I was ever to find it. -

Fucking big ouch.

Got Sunday to play. Anyone riding anywhere that I can access without huge trouble from SW Surrey?
-
• #10931
Can you get to gomshall or thereabouts?
-
• #10932
I can, less than an hour on a train actually.
But I'm not sure I've got the gnarpoonery to handle Surrey Hills. Too fat for SS and too shit for rigid. Pondering riding up to Swinley if I can find a decent off-road route.

Sounds like you need a new bike.

There's plenty of 'normal' riding around the Surrey Hills too. Not just the MAMIB stuff.

I've never mtb'd in my life but it looks fun, and despite being a general scaredycat I've been toying with the idea of trying it. The one thing that immediately jumps out at me is an on-one inbred slow burner build, thoughts?

Pretty classic

Yeah do it. My first mountain bike was an on-one and it was great, really good value for money too.
