  • Off to Jizzburn to bang some rims.

  • Have been researching winter tyres, decided I want a Spec Storm Control 29x2.0 on the rear and will keep what I have on the front cos I'm skint. I saw a pair on ebay for 35, anyone want to split the pair and the cost?

  • I've booked to go to Antur Stiniog for a day. While I'm sure I could ride it on my Kona, I'm planning on hiring a full squisher.
The question is, Nukeproof Mega (and get a feel for FS trail bikes, on the basis I might one day be able to afford one), or Pulse (on the basis that, well, fuck it, #bonesmendpresssend)?

  • +1 to Full double crown nonsense

  • How do you feel about writing cheques your talent can't cash?

  • Generally I'm not used to going seriously fast, and tend to get on the brakes before I reach speeds that are more likely to get me into trouble. I'm thinking that FS may let me go a bit faster than usual, but mainly it'll let me ride for longer without the trails and bike beating me up so much.

  • Or if you're not taking advantage of the bigger bike's gnar capacity, you're wearing yourself out riding a heavier bike, and possibly having a tougher time manoeuvring a slacker bike with a longer wheelbase.

  • True. I had wondered about that. On the upside, uplift.

  • @Landslide has more than enough talent to make use of a bonkers full bouncer @Emyr

  • Off to Cannock, must remember to put my helmet on at the start, not leave it in the van like I did at Gisburn a couple of weeks ago. Much aching from wheely practice the other night.

  • We're so rad.

  • Gonna be in Epping for a few hours from 2.

  • It’s gonna be boggy

  • Exactly what I'm after!

  • That, Beavertown and their hose and the newly opened Pressure Drop brewery made for a lot of fun. Photos of Indra on the floor tomorrow.

  • I have finally found a pair of Rockshox Reba 1 1/18" Dual Air forks. Yay!

I don't know how they are supposed to feel like, but I reckon these are not totally dialled in yet. The look pretty knackered and feel meh.

How often should they be pumped? Do you bring your shock pump when riding? Should I buy one or can I just get away with borrowing one once in a while? If the forks are not in the condition they should be in what is my best video tutorial if I want to learn how to service them?

  • They should feel great.

You need to set the negative and positive spring independently. There should be a guide on the fork leg for the pressures. You need to set them first to your weight, then tune to sag from there.

In theory, you should alter the pressure quite a bit because heat and altitude affect the air spring. Tuning by level of sag each ride isn't uncommon in racers. Most just find something they are happy with and leave it at that though.

You need a shock pump. They all come out of the same factory. I've got two, a fox one with a digi gauge that leave at home, and a Topeak that has no gauge, is very small, and I take that around with me.

Dual air rebas are very easy to service - SRAM publish the service manual, google it :)

Theres some good vids on youtube. Get safety goggles please.

  • I’ve got loads of shock pumps

  • Thanks, I have watched some tutorials.
    I'll give it a go.

@furious_tiles I am very interested. You have any with a gauge? Being a hench fellow (@BareNecessities ™) I need max PSI.

  • Yeah, all with dial gauge

  • I just binned two shock pumps through the fear that they got contaminated.

It's annoying but they need to be kept squeaky clean or you run the risk of pushing dirt in to an environment whose number one enemy is dirt.
