Can't see myself on a rowdy hardtail at 45
Gives you another 20 years to think about it then...

I came off yesterday after making a stupid mistake in a momentary lapse of concentration after being chased by a dog. There were a few sketchy moments due to tyres.. The bike I got off eBay to replace the one I had stolen is a Trek superfly 9. Totally stock. Totally fucking FAST. It has 2.2 Bontrager XR1s and the tread is very minimal. Seeing as I'll be using it mostly on trails and sandy/muddy shit, not hard packed Californian dirt, which tyres do I buy to replace them? I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere else so apologies for not using the search. Ardents the safe option? Or an ardent race at the back and ardent up front? Not sure if it'll actually clear a 2.4... also have not a clue about modern mountain bike stuff :-)

Or do I get rid of the bike and rebuy an actual trail bike when I'm not in a rush to grab something? I was in a rush because I was so sad that my Norco had been stolen...

Guessed as much. Wanted a bossnut v2 but sold out forever :-(

Trail bike , schmail bike! Fast is the one thing everyone wants their bike to be! Now that you have that, put some 2.2 conti X-Kings (in 'pure grip flavour, none of that pro-tection bollocks) and let it rip! They are good for 95% of uk conditions, IMHO, and only dedicated mud tyres would work in the other bit....and they are slow on everything else!
My view, don't flame me for it!

But what about the GNAR???!!!

If the Superfly is fun, keep it, at least for a while. Bontrager XR3s are better than Ardents and still fast. I've been running an XR1/XR3 combo on my rigid single speed and it's a hoot.

Who's doing Big Dog?
Plus - I now rival Howard for climbing physique. Never knew I had so many veins!
Negative - I rode 3 hours slow XC on Sunday and was wrecked...... -

Has anyone been to Stamner Park recently who can confirm that there is a water tap?

From the big dog site
Due to the Stanmer Pavilion burning down their is no water on site. Please make sure you bring your own supply!

That same page also gives the 2015 date and reports I found from the news is that the pavilion burnt down in 2011. I'm trying to find out any current information because I don't know whether what is on the website is still relevant.

Aha. I'll ask some Brighton friends

I'm in. Training it down on Friday and staying at a friend's house so I'm out of the group save. There was running water in the pavilion in the Spring, for sure.

Thanks Jon! That saves hauling a few litres of bottled water around.

Enjoy Big Dog - decided it's too risky to ride a 6hr race when I can barely manage 3hrs training 😓.
If there's any chance someone could get me a mug I'd be eternally grateful!

Sell 26" titanium hardtail and buy a 27.5"+ hardtail? A mate is on a Switchback and loves it. Bigger wheels and chunky, wide trail 2.5"-2.6" tyres will take the sting out of things.
Gotta have a hardtail for winter ennit.
