  • Yep around Dorking, Sunday morning sounds good to me, usual plan i'm not so sure, never did this before =P

And assuming that my flight isn't delayed or cancelled tomorrow i'll be riding this: http://my.opera.com/badmadcyclist/blog/show.dml/2698283

Do you know what the trail is like, will I be OK on my x bike..?

90% of it would be fine on a cx bike, it may be slower but pretty much all of it is ridable on a cyclocross bike.

  • A friend of mine lives out this way, I'll see if I can rope him in as he knows all the trials.

I will also be riding a SS 29er.

Awesome thanks, got some good mud tyres on it so hopefully wont be too slow. I guess I can run the bits I cant ride, will be good training.

  • Is this occuring this sunday?

I'm tempted tojoin you guys. Put me down if the snow has gone a bit. Dorking will have about 4 inches at the moment...

Just checked online, 10-14cm apparently... Well, if that melts, I'm in.

  • It's unlikely to melt mc.

    Grow some, you'll be fine!

It's not really about growing some, it's completely different riding for 4 -5 hours out of London than than 30 - 60 min in London. I went last year in the snow and it was fun but it was very slippy, it was very cold and it was a lot of hard work. We ended up stopping in a pub after about 4 hours and getting pissed. It's not that bad if you're properly dressed but it's nothing like riding in London at the moment.

I know, it twas a joke. ll

  • @ Mmccarthy, I hope you are going to wear more than just your normal attire of t-shirt and shorts.

  • Thinking about wearing some gloves...

    =P

We did get extremely pissed. That was a nice little outing.

  • Sorry if I'm being thick, but is there a route map for the proposed North Downs ride.

Must be about time to start a list.....

  • If this doesn't happen, I think Cycling Club Hackney have an offroad outing planned for Sunday which I might tag along to.

No proposed route yet, have any of us actually been there before?

  • A friend of mine who lives near dorking says the snow is almost unrideable at the moment and is only likely to get deeper by sunday.

Maybe it would be more realistic to do epping forrest?

  • I'm going to Epping tomorrow so i'll let you guys know what it's like.

  • I'm up for Epping Forest. Only 15 minutes from me. I'm free next weekend if you're going.

  • Sorry if I'm being thick, but is there a route map for the proposed North Downs ride.

I'm still not sure if I can do this w/e but if I do I can lead a far route around the N.Downs. Some good links in this thread if you take a looks. You will need a O/S map though.

If I go it will be sunday, but I'm still not sure until tomorrow.

I put a load of the gmap routes into one post one or two pages back.

  • Just got back from Epping Forest, didn't manage to find any singletrack (a combination of the snow and me not having a clue where I was going) but it was great fun, only fell off once, in the visitor centre car park...

  • I may have to work tomorrow, which is very sad.

  • Anyone in Hackney or near want to off road? I have a GT xc3 which is their budget version. Not great for huge stuff but I think I can cope. I'm fairly new to cycling however.

  • I would like to go if it's on sunday? How far is it from London?

  • I think the North Downs are pretty bad with regards to snow, i'd be up for going to Epping Forest if someone else knew their way around, I was there yesterday and just had to follow the main trails as I had no idea where anything was.
