  • that's two months wages

  • MrSmith fixed looks very gay compared to bmx it wouldn't be as interesting/exciting for viewers.

skidding through the city on a mental pursuit frame might ignite the viewers excitement

  • lol 'skidding', have a look on you tube and search for 'street bmx' or the trials stuff from the ryan leech dvd called manifesto. makes fixed tricks/riding look very lame.

  • indeed, although some of the alleycat videos from Digage are pretty exciting - but also illegal road behaviour

  • those dudes on the bmx'es fell of quite a bit though

  • yeah. amateurs.

Of course it does they are bike made for doing tricks. Hence they should be much better. A fixed wheel is meant to do tricks but you can do some tricks on it and it is fun. Most of the fixed wheels bikes riding around London are track bikes. They are not meant to be ridden on the road but they can be and it is fun. I have not herd anyone ever say that fixed gear trick are even in the same league as BMX of trail sticks. They are fun they do take skill. I am getting sick of this ridiculous argument that because there is BMX and trails bike which people do tricks on you should not do a completely different style of tricks on a track bike. I realize you personally have not said people should not bother doing these tricks but you are inferring that they are crap because BMX tricks are better putting them side by side. Comparing apples and oranges though.

I have herd this type of jealous argument before when MBT riders started riding street from BMXers. Same stuff "your tricks are crap"," your bike is not made for doing that", "oh you can only do that 10' drop because you have suspension" . It is not a competition between different types of riding respect each area of riding in it's own right.

[\rant aimed at all the haters]

  • yeah lacking in skill, they should be able to bail without hurting themselves and then carry on riding.

  • dicki those dudes on the bmx'es fell of quite a bit though

i thought it was good to show that!

  • well, now. wasn't there a thread a little while ago about how the 'mainstreaming' of fixed gear and it's absorbtion by the media is a problem? a lot of people on here didn't seem to like their hobby/lifestyle/whatever turned into a marketing ploy. but here we do want to see it on the telly. hmm... conflict of interests i'd say.

  • tommy. I don't even ride bmx as i lack any bike skills, i just think that the general public just see a bike if i was a researcher/producer for top gear looking for a story on bike v's car i would look at the stuff on dvd and the net and from a non cyclist point of view pick the kind of bikes and riders to make a 10 minute piece about a particular car. i don't think they would pick a fixed wheel cyclist to do the story, they have done dan atherton on his downhill bike the idea was nicked from the red bull race in lisbon and a couple of bmx's as lets face it getting airtime or manualing along a wall and grinding a hand rail is far more visually exciting than a fixed skid and barspin.

i don't hate fixed tricks i just think they look a bit tame compared to what's out there in the world of 20,24,26, that chinese girl knows her shit though.

  • Going back to the earleir point - I think top gear did something similar a few years ago already t..... Clarkson and road race cyclist doing the london marathon route during rush hour as I remember. I think the cyclist dic-ked all over the car. It wasn't a track bike, I don't think, but may be wrong. I can't find the clip, but I'm sure its out there.

  • the london marathon route was clarkson racing a runnner. the runner won.

Yeah I know what you mean when it comes to the tv view-ability point of view (horrendous bit of grammar there). Sorry if I seemed a bit short, we all get internet cranky some times.:)

Anyone got a yotube link to this episode? I tried top gear + bmx and topgear Budapest (or was that just word play on hippies part) and had no luck.

  • I can ride "no-hands".

  • how do you think your 'no handed - salute skid - barspin' compares to this to the genral public though?

  • I'm not being funny, but the general public don't understand anything but backflips. They wouldn't know the difference.

  • top gear have no plans to include fixed wheel cycles in any forthcoming episodes.

  • RPM, are you jeremy clarkson?

  • I am not.

but I know a man who knows a man who knows a man who is.

  • I know a man who knows a man who knows a man who knows a man who is jeremy clarkson now as well.

  • there you go.

I fucking hate cars, but watch top gear because it's not really about cars any more.

I remember when they used to just measure the boot space of some boring Ford saloon car

  • look on youtube or google video for a bmx vid called Chill Bro! this will blow your merino socks offf!

  • I'm one of those who have poo-pooed tricks on fixed bikes...more specifically track bikes.....it's not a case of jealous argument, my point would be: if you are genuinely interested in doing tricks you would be much better served by a bmx, trials or circus bike....you're seriously limiting yourself on a track bike......consequently you will never be able to achieve what you can on a bike specifically built for the purpose, therefore your tricks will never look / be as impressive.

That's the beauty of it :)
