• Went past Newington just before 6 - no lights, but there were netball players who are going to start playing every Wednesday (or maybe every other week).
I talked to them about polo and how we were working on getting the lights back as we play regularly each Wednesday between 6.30 and lights out. They seemed cool.

  • Netball? Meh.

    Were they on both courts?

  • Nope, just one court. They said they would play 'around this time' which was just before 6. I made it clear that we play every Wednesday from 6.30 and that footballers were usually there before on both courts. They seemed to understand that we have something regular and had seen us play before so I don't expect any problems. We can have one court each before they finish as I can't imagine they will play for too long.

  • I did ask them if they wanted to try polo (they didn't). I would love to play netball again.

  • Netballs for girls.

  • There were a group of girls playing netball before 6 last year. Probably the same ones? I'm surprised you don't remember them Sarah?

  • I quite enjoyed netball at school, but being the wrong sex quickly stopped my participation.

  • i saw you jumping a red light this moringing you naughty boy

  • me?

    HA!

  • Just got an email from the Senior Lighting Engineer at Southwark that a night-time inspection took place last night at Newington Gardens, after repairs had been done during the day. There was an intermittent electrical connection fault in the area (which was the reason for the main streetlights in the park also being on the blink) which had to be fixed up as well.

The floodlights should be up and running.
Several technicians were in touch with me as well regarding the timer; the box should now have extra security on it, and the timer should be calibrated to take into account the going back of the clocks by an hour this weekend for the end of summer time. I reckon the LHBPA could / should invest in a few plants (maybe some nice spiky thorn bushes) and do a bit of planting around the box, just as some sort of visual / physical barrier to stop the box being interfered with in the future.

If anyone is passing by in the next day or two, please report back... thanks.

  • Damn, I love playing at Peckham.
    Joke.

Top marks again Kev, nice work. Many beers coming your way I should say.
    This is excellent.

  • Kev, I'm not keen for anyone to garden/tinker unless given permission.

That's awesome news though, I wonder if they went for 9pm switch off in the end..?

  • Fantastic news! I fucking hate Peckham... Great work, Kev, tramp beers are on me...
I'll be passing Newt tonight, will check it out... Wish I had a mallet with me... :)

  • Great work Kev, thanks.

  • is anyone up for newington tomorrow in the day...? weather forecast is light shower early afternoon but sunner before and after that so it shouldn't be a problem.

  • Los Coños vs Josh/Aidan/Haz

    Saturday 30th - 12pm Newington

  • Two courts, unless there are other games on too... Would love to come up tomorrow but I've got too much on this weekend... Oh, well... :/

  • Los Coños vs Josh/Aidan/Haz

    Saturday 30th - 12pm Newington

    Yep.

I'm going to drag Dave, Aidan and Robb along too, so lots of throw-in opportunity.

Joni - do you fancy a Rusty Rims v Los Conos game if we are all there, as I think we are separate divisions?

  • We're in the same division S ! Sad that you didn't notice us. ;)

We'd be up for it though, sure.

Excuses now, we'll be mega hungover.

Sounds like a good day then, cool.

  • Ill be popping in for a bit, not sure when or for how long though...

  • Great work Kev, thanks.

No worries, happy to do it. I'll follow up on it once I get confirmation from polo heads that the lights *are *working, and thank them for their work. I'll also contact Peter John, who I met in person before at the Herne Hill meeting, and compliment his council on good customer service.

Fair play to Southwark on this one, once you contact the right people, and have some pressure from the councillors, they get shit done. I was copied on all the internal emails amongst the parks department and the engineers, so I could see they were doing something about it, instead of just sitting back. Getting that long email to them with all our concerns, done clearly but professionally, really did the trick. Having Claire Hickson on our side was great too. It was cool of her to come down to the BFF tourney. We owe her a favour.

  • Claire and Mirander love us, it'd be good to keep them on side, agreed.

Mirander's already sending on some cool venues for the London Open 2012, exciting stuff.

  • Awesome! They're really nice and Mirander's brother might come to beginners which would be a touch.

Apparently she knows me from somewhere too :-s
