• In my second ever 3 vs 3, we took a goal off Malice (even if our massive celebrations went on so long that they stuck one in at the other end...) Just shows there's hope in any game!

    Hi Hannah!

That was brilliant. You guys were too busy celebrating and we were shouting at you all to "Turn, turn" but you couldn't hear over the cheers :)

I hope So-Yo polo co/ Sheffield gets a 6th member soon so you can play some games!

  • It's all polo and we aren't entitled to anything but the chance to throw our mallets in.

    Deep....

  • I don't think seperating the noobs is a good idea. You learn a lot faster when you play with the big boys as joe said..

Noobs playing each other is great! Peckham carpark was so much fun because we were all learning togeather. The amount of time we had on the ball was good as we were able to try stuff.

  • ah good, everyone is happy then.

  • Yep, always happy, just wanted to highlight a hiccup.
    Polo love.

  • if you get the hiccups, its always best to try and regulate your breathing.

  • Not the drinking from the glass from other side trick?

Dean and Margs would like it to be known that they both enjoyed the throw ins and will be practicing as much as possible to improve quickly.
    More polo love.

  • ....
It's frustrating to have the rings run round you, but its also frustrating to slide the ball 9 times to pigfarmer in front of goal and have him miss it 9 times. It dosn't put me off though. #sorryjohnbutyouwereshitattimes

Fuck you. It was your passes that wsere shit. Never in the right place, always poorly speeded. I was in the right place and can hit anything perfectly all the time!

    ;@)

p.s. Sorry buddy. Still trying to get my eye back in I guess. Won't do it again!

  • :)

  • If Joni says that it wasn't working for the 2 new players, you guys have to take that statement at face value.

As I said before, it was a lot easier for us, the older players, because we all pretty much started at the same time, and our level has gone up in sync. So telling people to HTFU isn't really fair, as we have never had to HTFU.

If we don't make room for, and encourage (this means actually letting them have some time on the ball, not just saying 'well done') new players, then we won't get new players and the sport will die.

  • nobody said HTFU bill, your a day old on this, so i will tell you to STFU.

  • ... it was a lot easier for us, the older players...

    Speak for yourself grandad.

  • Thanks Bill.
I'm thinking of starting a beginners polo throw-ins thread because I've had a few PMs as well as people stop me on the street.
It's awkward to co-ordinate through PMs etc so I think a dedicated thread to when and where people will having a casual tap around would be helpful.
    Any objections?
Also, what's the go on using Newington at the weekends in terms of 'respecting the locals'?

    Thanks again everyone.

  • Do it.

  • Also, what's the go on using Newington at the weekends in terms of 'respecting the locals'?

We have to 'share' the court's more. With all the league games/full day tournanments/throw-in's/etc happening there, the locals were getting pissed with not being able to get on the courts. We need to keep them happy...

It's important to share the space. We had some issues with Downham last year, which we managed to resolve by talking, but most importantly, sharing.

Absolutely, which is why I asked. So it's possible to swing by and see if a court is available, and not to hog it if it is?
I'll try and find somewhere else also in the interest of fairness. There's a fair few in Peckham (which should be ok in the day light!)

  • any slackers for polo this arvo? J

  • I've found some excellent courts in Brockley (Nunhead side).. 2 courts, flat surface, lights, barriers all round similar to Newington, and hardly ever used. But one court has basketball hoops with the posts inside the court and one has football style goals. Could be good for beginner games?

  • Perfect, cheers Sarah!
Right near Jam Circus too. :)

Ha! I was waiting for that.

I know that no-one has said exactly HTFU, but expecting total beginners to stand a chance of getting anywhere near the ball, when playing against some of the best players in the country is pretty much the same thing.

I know that everyone is conscious of the need to encourage fellow players, especially when they are struggling, but with rookies, giving them a little bit (or preferably a lot) of the ball is probably more useful.
