A little update on my collarbone, for anyone who cares. I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago for my 3 month x-ray, which was the provisional time for making a decision about whether or not to get the operation. However, by then I was already starting to consign myself to fact that I'd probably need to get it plated, purely down to it 'not feeling right'. It would still twinge or ache after any above-normal exertion, and the lump was still tender. Sure enough, the x-ray showed precisely no change in bone regrowth since a month before, so I've signed up for it to get a bone graft and a plate, probably around mid December.

The good news is that it should now heal to normal strength within about 3 months, which would mean back on the bike by the spring. I'll also have the plate out after 9 months, so I won't have to deal with it as a permanent inconvenience. Short term, it'll hurt a lot after the operation, and I'll probably give it at least 4 months before gingerly returning to polo, but long term it shouldn't be any weaker than before. It's still insanely frustrating to be stuck inside and unable to do any sort of exercise other than the hateful turbo trainer, and having to endure another 4 months of it, but atleast I now have a summer of cycling to look forward to. Barring any complications with the operation, and of course the possibility of another crash, I anticipate a tentative return to polo around April. Woop.
