Good timing, tonight (actually, every Tuesday) is beginner's night in Peckham. See this thread. Just make sure there are other people signed up for the evening before you head over there.

That's not to say that you couldn't come to any other polo throw-in, it's just that you're guaranteed to get a loaner bike and mallet down at Peckham.

Louis, why are lists so wrong?

Number of reasons. Mostly lists can have a negative effect on people turning up, with people deciding not to come because the list hadn't filled up quickly enough. But the opposite never happens, never does a list make polo more likely to happen, only more likely not to happen.

Also it's predicated on people having access to the Internet. There are people who don't check the Internet before coming to polo.

I should point out I'm not aversed to people saying they are in, but to make a list suggests that only the people on the list will come which in my experience isn't the case.

Can't we all count and work out for ourselves if it's worth coming rather than having numbers before people's names?

Also there is a history of souths not having lists, and I like that.
