  • Ooof. Wasn't quite prepared for that. Bit of a change from the 2011 route!

  • Hello all,

Anyone interested in a 17 hours, cross country, east-coast to west-coast cycle, pedalling from sunrise to sunset across the UK on the longest day of the year?

Riding this year on Saturday June 22nd.

    More info here - www.chasethesun.org

Not a sportive - its free!

  • Cross country as in off-road or literally across the country?

Isle of Man CC, now with 24hr option.

  • Do it

  • I'll be support crew. It's a dull as fuck course though. Beer on tap in my home when you've finished.

  • I rode up and down the A41 for 24 hours. I think I can manage the TT course.

But by the 27th of September this year I was face deep in buckets of stale beer, pizza crusts and ciggie butts. I now can't remember the last time I rode on a weekend.

I still wanna check out the island though so doing a couple of laps might act as a nice excuse.

this is a much nicer ride. no 24 option though.

    Whenever, you're more than welcome.

  • Christ. I've been talked into doing both the Liege Bastogne Liege sportive and Etape in 2014.

This makes me officially the youngest MAMIL on the planet. Will get working on my beer gut and find a Mercedes to cruise about in in the meantime.

  • Did the 160km LBL last year, and it was excellent. The route, fellow riders and organisation were all top-notch.

  • My friends are trying to talk me into doing the Paris-Roubaix challenge next year... Is it worth doing? I'd rather do proper road races tbh.

  • I have a mate who did the full route and he said similar. It costs naff all and you get all sorts of stuff in the registration.

I've been talked into doing the full route, every time I think about it I feel a bit sick... so, so, so many miles

Find a strong wheel. Sit behind it :)

Worth doing once, definitely. It's a bit special. I'm now firmly in the 'never again' camp, but others are made of stronger stuff.

  • Not so much stronger stuff as an inability to face the memory of how horrifying the experience was.

  • Plus you have to do it on a bike mis-suited to the task for the full effect. Cross bike is blates cheating.

  • Ride it on a HHSB with track gearing, 19c tubs, and brakless, or GTFO.

  • ^ Wearing jeans.

  • the PR is actually quite doable on track gearing.

  • challenge accepted

    .

  • never again

I rode my bike 25 miles, for fun, on Tuesday. Just.
At this rate I'll be back on form 2016.

I'm considering doing P-R fixed, not on anything as big as track gearing. Is riding cobbles fixed hellish? Or actually quite a good idea?

  • I think that it's a fucking awful idea to be honest.

  • I agree, I think it doesn't Kompute.
