I'm plugging this sportive btw;
http://www.granfondoluciano.co.uk/
It's an excellent first sportive for those who've never ridden one with a few tough hills, including Whitedown (aka The Widowmaker) as the final climb of the day, but at 70 miles or so it isn't insanely difficult. I rode it last year as preparation for the Etape and got in a good group (eventually whittled down to two of us) and it was great fun.
The event starts and finishes at Leatherhead Sports Centre so is easily accessible from London.
Nice one Andy, just signed up. My enthuasism for cycling has wilted as of late, this will give me a reason to get my arse into gear.

I've just entered the Legs of Steel;
http://www.fulontri.com/LegsofSteel/LegsofSteel2010/tabid/195/Default.aspx
I've ridden it for the past 3 years and it's a great little end of season event. The course is tough but at 50 miles isn't that long. It should be familiar to anyone who rides in the Surrey Hills.
A 70 mile ride through the Surrey countryside?
