-3C this morning. Wool socks + cheapo Time MTB shoes + neoprene overshoes = freezing toes.
I have reached an alltogether new level of self pity.
I should order the Lakes ASAP. But I spent all my bike budget for the month on crazy tyres.

I think Hippy is suggesting that I ask that young lady to wrap my toes in her nightdress, which would cause tension in my house I think.

Right now all I can think is that that nightdress looks cold :(
Dammit, is it a previously injured toe thats getting cold. Cuz that could be a perminent problem. I've broken 4 fingers over the last 2 years, all quite badly. I can now not tolerate cycling without massive gloves.

No, if you look at that fascinating picture you can just about see the scar where they toook out the nerve is between my second and third toes, counting from the left.
I've got no sensation in them any longer, or the pad/ball of my foot underneath them, but my big toe still has nerves in it (that work)

Perhaps you haz circulation issues and a trip to the doctors would be good.

I'm booked in to see the quack about getting the other foot filleted, I can mention it then- however I suspect the answer will be "yeah, wear warmer shoes"

Hmmm, just wondering if you have squashed a blood vessel that runs between your metatarsals- it's a lower probability thing- but you could try building a metatarsal bar- slight arch from left to right under your metatarsals (toe-knuckles) around 2mm high at the highest/middle point, see if that helps? More likely if the sole of the boot is a little concave at the ball of the foot.

Dammit, just thought, you have cold feet, and a house full of cats....

Dammit, did the Lakes come up small against their sizing chart with thick socks on, or with normal socks? Apart from convincing the wife that spending towards £200 on cycling shoes is a good idea, the sizing is my biggest concern - I'm a bit funny with shoes.
I am concerned that this winter is going to be harsh, when it kicks in and I got mild frostbite with thermal socks, sidis and decent overshoes last time round. I've been thinking of just rocking my walking boots with mulitple thick sock layers, but this would involve buying some flat pedals and I don't like riding without being able to clip in.

I didn't get the Lakes- I got Shimano MW80's, a decision I may come to regret.

Yes they did, I used their sizing chart and did the whole drawing round the feet and measuring thing, which told me that the 41's (which are my regular shoe size) would be fine with a little room to spare. In reality, I struggled to get my feet into them with the thinnest popsocks I have, and even when I managed they were VERY tight. going to send them off today to exchange for some 42's which will hopefully be a lot more comfy, so yeah as with most cycling shoes Id advise sizing up.

7c here this morning, sun, bluesky and 30+mph winds.
Its ace. I wore extra breathable summer shoes to stop my feet over heating.

You mean sandals, don't you?

No.

sorry, got Dammit and MrLemon mixed up. Thanks for the info. I sent the wife an email this morning with my most recent sales pitch for the Lake's (I'm trying to wear her down) and her reply was 'We live in London.' Heartless woman!

Ban her from buying any shoes until she comes round to your point of view

I think Malaysian's on to something. Higgs' tail would be more than plenty in its current state. We're due to get a draft excluder soon, so she won't need to that job any more.

Would cats be effective feet warmer, on the bike. The neighbor has a couple cats that piss in the kid's sandpit, and Mrs Smallfurry has plenty of double sided tape.
