700c
yes, 27" is bigger. and being bigger doesn't really give you advantage more like pain... there's not much choice and future for 27" to be honest
27" in the front and 700 in the back will be quite weird i guess.one option is to swap the forks so you can have a 700c on the front. and wouldn't cost much.

by choice i mean rims and tyres and thus, colour, material, profile etc etc.
-
• #4
gotta be 27" - don't look right otherwise
-

27" will look much better in your frame than 700c. depends how long you plan to keep using the frame.
-

27" are cooler.. due to them having more material to dissipate heat with.. other than that.. fsck 'em.. I can't wait until everything is 700C/1-1/8 Ahead/Shimano 10spd/carbon :)

Cool, thanks for the feedback,
I just put on a 700 wheel on front of the bike and the break reaches as is and it doesn’t look that bad (the 27” does look better), funny enough I put the 27” on the front of the other bike and it fit and looked mad.
I’m still no closer to making a decision but I recon obsolete equipment is way cool, so in staying with the trend of riding an archaic fixed gear I might as well get some expensive obsolete wheels to go with it.

I can really recommend those Jalco Aeros, they're tough as fuck and look great! Pricey tho', more expensive than bloody Deep-Vs!?!
They (strangely) don't look out of place on an old bike either... Huge and badass!

i'm toying with the idea of building up some 27" for when i get the old holdsworth re-painted. will have pretty tight clearance :D

But there is only about 5mm difference in size between a 27" and a 700c
- you can barely tell the difference.

700c purely for more choice in tyres.

Trust me, you can *feel *the difference... ;-)

if you've got an old frame that was built for 27" then it will look better with 27" wheels on. A good old frame will outlive you so it's well worth the investment.
ps, I've got these tyres, they're great.

I've got a set of those Ultra Gator 27s on my Mercian, a total Monster Truck look when paired with deep 27 rims... They're the only puncture proof 27" tyres I could find, wouldn't mind rolling on something a little slicker and racier sometimes... Anything else out there?

i got some 27x1" panaracers from spa cycles. much better. more like a 25" than a 28".
i was rocking the 27x1+1/4 before, hardcases, they looked nasty, mega fat.

Dunno about nasty, I kinda like them in a perverse way... They do look a bit let's go off-road tho'... Will check out what you said...

Is it just me or are they really expensive?
I am still looking for wheels for my fixie project and would like to stick with 27, but those prices seem a bit steep. -

Supply and demand I guess, my HHSB Jalco rims were more expensive than a set of really good quality rims and they're total budget jobs... The man's got you by the knackers if you wanna rock 27" boots...
-

Probably right.
Cost wise one should go for 700cc I guess, even when this means new tyres as it is in my case.
Future upgrades easier as well. -

Shhhhhhhhh!
Right so I know the deal with break reach issues when switching from 27” to 700 but I’m having trouble deciding what size of new wheels I should get for my beloved BSA. At the moment I’ve got a knackered set of steel 27” wheels with a busted spoke, and want to get some nice trick wheels, so should I shell out and build a nice set of 27” wheels that I won’t be able to use on a different (perhaps track) frame should I get one? Or should I switch to 700’s that I can use on a different frame but look kinda funny on my current bike.
Is it just me or do 27” wheels look better being just that tiny bit bigger?
Is there any other advantage to sticking with 27” wheels?
how about 27" in the front 700 in th back?
Should I just stop whingeing and go to 700?
Cheers for any knowledge you bestow upon me.
