Oh dear.
This.
Those who should keep this thing going have a hand in letting it die. When literally nobody can be arsed it'll go right down the toilet. Oh well.

Paul.
Nobody "should keep this thing going".
No one is obligated to turn up every week.
Wests, like all the other compass drinks and all other social events in the world ever, should be attended by people who choose to and want to be there.
If those who have previously regularly attended Wests and kept it alive decide that they no longer wish to attend, or at least not attend every week, it is not your place to call them out on it.
You live out West right? If you feel strongly about it why don't you take up the baton and turn up early every week like Murts and Ada have done? -

I do turn up every week since I came back to London - if I'm able. It goes without saying if nobody else can do so then fair cop. You can choose to view it as calling anyone out as much as you like, but it doesn't change anything. Perhaps you could take it as a kick up the arse instead, to try and get people more interested. By going regularly I do just that. Maybe if you've been there on three occasions recently and left as nobody else arrived you'd feel differently.
As for nobody should keep this going, I'm not convinced you can believe that's true.

Sorry Paul was getting ready to come down but sadly life got in the way.
Always up for wests drinks but I haz other priorities these days.

Guilt-tripping people into attending is not going to revive Wests.
And I do believe that no one should keep Wests going if it doesn't do so naturally on its own. That's fine if you don't agree.
Wests was born from a few people with a common interest wanting to meet for a drink every once in a while. To my knowledge none of those people still attend on a regular basis. It would be great if what they inadvertently started continued in perpetuity, but it cannot and should not be forced (IMO).
I'll turn up when I can and if I feel like it. No one should feel they have to do more than that; it's meant to be fun!

This is my last comment on it. I'm not trying to guilt trip anyone. Granted my post reads harshly but I cannot see how if those who pass for regulars don't sustain Wests it will dwindle beyond the reduced attendance of recent times.
It's nobody's fault in particular. Like Bobbo I have other things to do, but for a long time Wests was an immovable of my week. Now though it's becoming less of a guarantee, and I find that a real shame actually. Nobody else coming several times is quite damning and sadly representative. My original post was making that point. All I'm interested in is seeing a thriving Wests, not giving anyone the boot.

This is sad.
Do I have to return to the UK to get people out for a fucking beer?
As the Red Veg says, no one is obliged to attend but 'Swine's thoughts that it's a regular feature in his calendar are the reasons that it has survived for so long. People move on, people do other things. A new recruitment drive is required.

Don't get me wrong - I have no desire to see Wests die. I just don't feel that TS's first comment is the best way to address the issue.
I'd be happy to lead a compass beers out to Wests some time soon, but can't do before Xmas.
New Year, New Wests? -

Don't panic, guys. It happens to every drinks every once in a while. It'll recover. People are just busy with other stuff at the moment and will return when they can.

Bugger! If you happen to notice a thieving scrote riding round West London on a Black Trek 7.2 with a silver headset extender, knock him off for me will you?

From my back yard, climbed over the back gate and swiped it. Never bothered to lock it there before, always thought it was quite a secure yard!

That is unfortunate, I take it is tagged and you have reported it. Cycletask Force are quite active around H&F you never know they might turn it up.

Well it looks like its just us Paul - I am leaving the office now, should be there around 6.45. Not sure about the bike parking around that bit of GHR. Any suggestions?
About 8 for me.
