  • Anyone going to the home of shit food tonight? There was at least one punter (not "on here") sending theirs back last week.

  • FFS James, leave it out.

  • ^^Veronica runs a restaurant? OMG

  • I take it the QA has been abandoned for good?

    Quoted.

No, but it can only be used for 'high level' meetings.

I saw someone sending chips back last week:)

I don't mind going back to Raven.
QA is quite small and very often busy between 7-10pm, it's nice as a "after Raven pub" though.

I think if more people start complaining about food then maybe something will change.

Who said that Luca didn't go to Dorset but works somewhere in the pub in Fulham?
    Maybe we should move there?

  • FFS James, leave it out.

to be fair, the food that i've seen recently has looked shit. got some chips last week and lots of them were undercooked with the rest dripping in oil. shouldve sent them back but couldnt be fucked.

  • I dunno about you guys but food was never the be-all and end-all reason for going to a pub.

It's the people and a drink.

There's a lot to be said for the South Beers burger buddy deal... a few quid for an adequate and filling burger rather than £12 for a gastropub priced meal (regardless of quality).

So long as there is food, and it's good enough... I dunno, aren't we getting a bit fussy?

  • I had some mushroom-and-cheese bonanza last week, it was very nice and so ridiculously filling that I didn't eat any of my chips. I kind of wish I had so I could join in with chip-gate.

But agree that surely food isn't the reason you go to a pub. Drinkin' and fightin', that's all you need.

  • Has this been re-heated yet?

  • Hats repped.
    drinkin' an fightin' indeed.

oh and cussin' dont forget le cussin'

  • Has this been re-heated yet?

Not even revolved in a microwave.

  • what time you getting there dj?

  • Lovely chips tonight!

  • As 116 pointed out, would you trust anyone who has the personal hygiene issues of the new chef to cook food for you?

  • There's a lot to be said for the South Beers burger buddy deal.

Where have you been? That has been gone for some time now. And after pizza became history at North it is pretty good that there is food at the Flask. I still like the Raven so.

You're talking to people here who haven't quite grasped the distinction between food and drink. :)

But yes, it's obviously about 'the people and a drink' first and foremost.

As for where that takes place, I think the criteria for a successful forum pub are:

    (1) That the pub welcomes the regular drinkers and bikes (e.g., the Trinity Arms rather failed on that score);
    (2) That there's space for bikes and people being next to bikes (smoking or talking about bikes, or both);
    (3) And that there's a cheap food deal.

Most forum pubs through the years have fulfilled at most two of these criteria. The C&H fulfils/fulfilled (new management seems to be good but I don't know) all three. Since the food changed, the Raven now only seems to fulfil two. The Flask has never had a food deal to the best of my knowledge, so only two, as well (but I may be wrong on that). The Royal Inn fulfilled two (no food deal) and I still think that it was a shame we moved away from there. Too many subsequent East pubs to rate them all. I haven't been to the Albert, so don't know what it's like.

Obviously, there are other kinds of interests, e.g. which beers people like, but I don't think they're as important as those three. Also, location is of course important--e.g., the Jolly Butchers makes Easts really NE drinks now--, but there are issues like accessibility (a problem the Britannia had) or just generally which area you decide on in those very large areas ill-defined by compass points (SEs close to London Bridge or in Deptford?).

Anyway, I really enjoyed Wests last week and liked the Raven a lot, although I didn't have any food, so can't comment on that.

  • All a forum pub needs is beer, room to store/lock bikes, peanuts, and locks on the toilet cubicles for wanking and shooting-up.

Oh, and an imperfection or two so DJ can moan.

  • ^ More fun without locks, no? Gives it that element of danger...

  • Oh, and the veggie burger I had last night was nice
