I reckon you'd be flying if you did it in 45mins, just under 17miles right through the centre of town. More like one hour.

absolutely, even at 3am and blowing every light I'm not sure 45 mins is do-able

17 miles - yeah that's further than I thought it would be. It's going to be at least an hour if you stop at lights.

Or, if we do it as an lfgss night ride, it'd take about 5.5 hours ;-)

I found it quite hard to guess, since there are a few bits of that journey out West that I don't know. But I think that under an hour is a reasonable estimate? Probably at least 45 minutes.

I think 45 min would be going some. On Sunday I made it from Woolwich (which is the same distance east as the airport but just south of the river) to Hyde park corner viwaLondon bridge in 45 min. I did get held up a little y the blocked roads but not much. That was with a head wind but to make up the extra distance to kew form Hyde park corner would be going some.

I think there should be a race.

TfL reckons that you can do it by public transport in 1:09. So, the Stig should have been in with a chance. But, he took a silly route (District line to Bank then DLR.) Train to Waterloo, then jubilee lien then DLR gives 1:09.

So, two questions:

Why would Top Gear make it so easy for the bike?

And

How fast can we do it?

What about a time trial type evening ride. 5 min staggered starts? Could be loads of fun.

all bike companies are really owned by the car manufacturers anyway..(you didn't know?)

but seriously
cos they hate public transport more than bikes, most cycle commuters own cars, nearly all leisure cyclists (mtb) own cars and as you can see from any bike forum you care to pick (MT probably an exception) cyclists, by and large, watch top gear!

peugeot's the classic example. bikes > scooters > cars. and now they even stopped making bikes.

It has loads of stuff on and you can ignore most of it and just pick out the stuff you want.

It has some old stuff (e.g. dennis potter/ jonathan meades/adam curtis) on there quite often as well as recent programs

Those user accounts (uknova, i assume?) are like rocking horse shit. AND, you have to keep using them or they nick them back. I went on holiday for a while and came back - no more account :-(
