  • think they changed the plot after being bought by timberland..... shame !...... i mean timberland !!!!!!!!! eeewwwwww!

    oh for christ sake...

search 'howies', you'll get some proper story about that.

  • there was a post on their blog not too long ago about making a few more technical pieces and the guy had seen a preview of a new 'long way home' type jacket so maybe there's some stuff in the pipeline

    Oooh, OK.

  • Make sense, right now it's the autumn line-up, we've yet to get the winter one.

  • We haven’t had a bike jacket in our range since the Long Way Home and I never got one. I hesitated and then they were gone, I’ve had to listen to people here in HQ say how good they were, I’ve had the same experience talking to customers at the World Cup in Fort William and at Mountain Mayhem.

But last night I took the Long Way Home in one of the prototypes of its successor, it doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s going to be good. It’s at that stage where all the little detail refinements have clicked into place and when it just feels right.

It’ll be a little while before it’s here, but it’ll be worth the wait.

this was the post, from last friday

  • OK, well, I'm excited about that. Which is sad, I know. But that jacket was good-looking enough to wear in the pub, warm, but not sweaty, light and had awesome reflective patches that just looked white in daylight. Super jacket.

  • Just got an email from Howies about this offer. It only lasts for a day & a half so you will need to be quick.

Quote code DAY15H on the website or on the phone.

This offer ends midday Friday 27th November. The discount code cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers.

  • Thanks.

    They've also got a London sample sale starting tomorrow and running through to Sunday at the Truman Brewery;

  • another one tonight, any advice about locking a bike up at The Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, (should I lock it up near liverpool street and walk?)

  • It's fine to lock up there. There's bike spaces near Tesco. Use a good lock though.

  • 20% off and free postage on the site too, until midday tomorrow..**.

    DAY15C**

  • 2 merinos, wooly jumper for the cold nights and pair of shorts for the summer all for 90 notes, wel worth the trip. Rummaging through the jumble with the rest of the 30somethingliberals confirmed me as howies target audience, but who pays full price for their gear?

  • just got a Howies long way home jacket form the sale in carnaby st. £100 (from £195). some good deals in there today

  • They have been guilty of schizophrenic sizing, poor shrinkage record and sometimes awful colours but I think the quality has picked up in the last few seasons but my main beef is the women's range. I mean one of the things they say they base their collections on is:

    "Would a rider wear it?"

Explain the "Snow White Katherine" flared jeans to me then. The only person who would ever ride in those had the last name Knievel. Why are the catalogues full of dudes riding bikes and having fun whilst the girls just mooch about looking winsome: I'm not saying I don't enjoy it but girls who ride bikes are sexy too.

yes, this is true. the sizing used to be a main annoyance for me, but it's getting better. their merino is still the best reason i can find to pop into the store. everything else is lovely, but not something i'd wear to go out and ride or go for a wander or anything. too, um, well, its just very twee.

saying that, i still wear one of their lightweight jackets for riding, because it's bright blue, so it marks you out, and its actually fairly good at being breathable. its just never warm enough.

  • Bugger. I loved that jacket. Sell me it? Large?

  • they may have it in stock, call em up. Has that reflective "stealth" material that the rapha rucksacks have. But you know that cus you had one already. heres the number for customer services: Customer Service: 01239 614 122
    good luck!

  • It seems that Howies base layers, which I have used and liked, have now gone up to £55. Seems like a bridge too far, that. Can't imagine that they'll shift many when they're charging even more than Rapha. Nice but pricey.

  • Zing!

    Thanks.

  • One wonders what the answer to this is:

By the Howies Management Team do you mean the founders, i.e. West Wales locals or does it involve vicious venture capitalist types?
