• kilgore - it might be some-what pertinent to mention that you are, indeed, posting on a BBS devoted entirely to the perfected art of the geekery of fixed gear and single speed bicycles, as focused within greater london - thus the name. one geek begets another; for some its Kinbaku, for some its the sprawl trilogy (and all its progeny), for some its linux hacks, for some its "crème brûlée's", for some its f-stops and apertures, for some its collecting retarded color ways of the same fucking nike shoe, and for others its typography. although i spent some time studying some of the prior, and many years studying the latter, the point is simply each to his own.

• kilgore_trout i just google searched what this is, and....are you fucking serious?! people are really going nuts over making fonts with subtle differences between each other?! i mean, i'm sure there's a group or niche for every little weird thing in society, but the thought of brooding over font types makes my skin crawl

...people are really going nuts over building bikes with subtle differences between each other?! i mean, i'm sure there's a group or niche nice for every little weird thing in society, but the thought of brooding over gear ratios and front wheel clearance makes my skin crawl...

• abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

• silly rabbit, thats not helvetica! ha ha! (amen pixel!)

• i was going to watch it, but instead i just used the font instead and gazed longingly at the screen for an hour. achieved the same effect.

• spiekermann made me smile as well mr tynan - i dislike meta as much as he dislikes helvy

• i know this is a bit shameless but my mates just done these A1screenprinted calendars - 25 clams each

• The second one is nice.

• ohh thats nice...its quite similar to a project i had last year.that is what i love about design^^

• Great film. Whish they showed the full version.

I would have thought it would be interesting to designers and nondesigners as it has such a massive usage.

• revenge of the nerds!

• designer/design students are trained to recognize such things...where as nondesigners probably dont care what font it is

• worst insult: your kerning is wrong mate. ouch!

• They are showing the whole version at the ICA for about the next two weeks.

• i am modernism

wim rocks! one my most prized posessions is a copy of mode en module.

Idea 323 is a good purchase to see some crouwel, few bits in there i'd not seen before

• Yup.. OCD is on the ball here - for all those wanting to see the full version, get yourself along to the ICA:

http://www.ica.org.uk/Helvetica+14863.twl

• i just bought a ticket for 4:30 today....

• yep, that's where I saw it. v.good

wasn't quick enough to get one of the limited box-sets of the dvd though :-(

packaged in a custom box that includes the retail DVD, three letterpressed mini-posters, a color C-print of a still from the film (one of ten different stills) signed by director Gary Hustwit, two love/hate Helvetica buttons, and a letter of actual Helvetica metal type!

• damn, were they selling it on their website?

• SMEEAR typography is a masssssive subject

...yup. Massssively dull. I spent a chunk of Friday being lectured about Verdana, Arial & Helvetica by some publishing manager - even though I had printed each on a peice of paper so that we could glory in the almost imperceptible differences. It's an hour of my life I will never get back.

• says it all....

• i wonder what tony foney-maloney thinks about helvetica?

• very insightful look at the origins and widespread uses of one of the most simple yet perfect typefaces ever invented.
brilliant

• -40pt tracking?
