  • I wish I had room for a shed.... or better still, a garage!

  • Ahh, that is better. (Sits down, stops shaking, has tea.)

  • better than any painting :

  • it's in the wrong corner of the room now MA3K...

  • those sheds are shit, my mate had one and the aluminium hinges can be broken off very very very easily!!

  • take it up to your room, its what i do and i am on the 3rd floor

    yeah its a bitch

  • wayne_f14 it's in the wrong corner of the room now MA3K...

    Disturbs the Feng Shui hey?

  • I'm on the 4th floor!!! But i am moving soon with any luck to a new flat - also on the 4th floor... but this one will be mine, and I have a second room to put all my toys in!

Where are the wall mount things from?

  • Having lived in blissfull isolation for the last couple of years, happily decorating each room with at least one half built bike I now have a cousin whose studying in London staying so have had to review the bike storage situation.
I've bought one of Trimetal's Sentator storage units, same hight as the bike store, marginally narrower but longer. Got this on the basis that while it might take one less bike because it's longer I'll be able to store tools and stuff in it as well. I've got a back garden to stick it in, so don't have to worry about it sitting outside advertising that there's valuable stuff inside just waiting to be nicked.
I'm definitely going to put a concrete slab down to put it on though, which even doing the work ourselves I reckon will add a couple of hundred quid to the cost of buying this.
If you want to put the neighbours off, but don't just want to tell them to fu*k off, suggest you put together a quote for buying the storage unit, getting someone to clear the ground outside the building, to lay the concrete slab, erect the bike store, as it's outside upgrade the padlocks to industry verified secure locks (I just made that up) and surveyors fees to ensure you don't need planning permission and that the finished store complys with building regs and local off street bye laws. You should be able to inflate this to several thousand pounds that should be more than enough to put them off. As the cherry on the cake you ask them how much bigger they think you'll need to make the concrete base so you can put up a storage unit for the buggy and other childrens paraphanalia.
Just to ram the point home, on your way out each morning, as you pick up the bike, nochantly leave a cup with the last dreggs of the morning's coffee and a nice damp base on the french dresser, so you can pick it up in the evening on your way back in. That should leave at least a couple of nice rings on the surface, which of course won't worry them in the slightest as if they were worried about it they'd keep it in their flat.

wiggle it, just a little bit

  • eeeewww, just put a bad image in my head. wayno in a diamante thong shaking his business to that song.

  • The bike container storage thing is lame, it'll be a thief magnet.

Bike bag? It's what I'm thinking of doing in my halls. The only down side is that you have to take your front wheel off every time - which I'm thinking might wear out the dropouts of the forks? That's the only thing that's stopping me from getting a bike bag really.

Other than that I'm seriously considering a Brompton.... :(

  • Cheers Wayne - found it about 10 mins after I asked - look and ye shall find!! Thanks anyway.

  • Thanks for all the comments guys - and bike storage suggestions - i've been thinking for a while that a hook in my flat will
have to be the way forward - but even this isn't good enough for the thesp who doesn't want any tiny tire marks on the walls
on the way up the stairs. Pretty hard to avoid as there's barely enough room to get round the bannisters.
"I can't live like this - in this filth!" was one comment i believe.......... I was pretty gobsmacked at that one.

I won't bore you with any more details of how impossible it is to explain my situation to this guy - and honestly i've
tried - i've even offered to repaint but he was livid by then and had stopped listening...

  • RPM yes, tell them your insurance won't cover the outside storage.

hadn't thought of that one - thanks.

    RPM
you could also get a bike hanger to go up on the wall in the hall (if there is space and enough height) which would mean it's hardly a fire hazard if it's up off the floor and not in the way.

Tried that one but they won't have it - they want the hallway to be an oasis of calm in magnolia.

Tell the guy that you could store your bike up his ass hole if he climbed out of there and freed up some room.

  • tell them to cnut off. You live there as well, so your bike has all rights.
stick it in your housemates bed one day a la horse's head, and see if they get the reference.
    cnuts.

    lol tommy

  • tell them it's a bike, not a rabid elephant with the shits

    sorry, that tickled me...

  • Time for some gang violence.. I'm thinking white hoods, burning baby rattles, that kind of thing

  • SUMMONS THE TROOPS

  • Tell them that you'll buy a motorbike instead and stink out the hallway with leathers that smell of petrol.

What a bunch of arseholes, so many people just seem to hate bikes.

  • So I'm moving in with the lady. Great news for saving money (more to spend on parts), not so great news for storing the bikes. It's a small 1st floor flat. No balcony.

Options: Wall mounted flat against the wall. Stand - against the wall. External garage lock-up somewhere.

Who's got any experience / recommendations?

I saw in the LCC mag somewhere an amazing round wall mount with a cut out for a crossbar to fit. The weight of the bike was used to secure it. I remember seeing it won a product of the year award. I can't find nor remember it now. ?????

It's got to be neat and flush against the wall and would preferably have space for one bike at bottom and one above it.

Not keen on getting a lock-up. Does anyone rent one? Council? Might be good as a little bike hobby workshop thing.

Any help would be muchos appreciated ;-)

  • Cycloc is the round tub thingy you mentioned. Bit pricy compared to other wall mounts, but it's specifically designed for indoors apparently. Definitely keeps things pretty close to the wall (and spoke to the guy who designed it at the Cycle Show and he was thoroughly decent).

  • You're thinking of Cycloc I reckon. They're pretty cool but you should check this http://www.jdcycles.co.uk/accessories/storage-solutions/sport-solutions-oakrak-floor-to-ceiling-2---4-bike?JDC=1b

It's a floor to ceiling job and is great if you've got more than one bike to secure, it will take four and looks good too. There is also a freestanding version which I prefer.
