where do you find these holiest of holy pedals?

Just spent my first two days clipless on Speedplay X's
Having never used clipless at all, let alone fixed; I was expecting to make it to A&E before I made it to work, but I'm well and truly converted...the control is amazing, clipping in and out is a piece of piss (though no accidental clipping out, even under heavy braking) and there is loads of float for my poor old skate ravaged knees!
The only downside is the hefty price tag; but assuming they last I'm a happy bunny

starting tomorrow- am a clipless rider.... yay

I wish I was clipless.
I think it might be overkill on a Brompton, considering I can't ride my fix at the mo because it's at home.

I run old looks with adj.tension, never pulled out

Right i can actually pull out both my feet (unclip) from my shimano SPDs and cheap specialised shoes without even twisting ankle a little bit. The cleats are only about 2 months old with only a month of daily use... Whats the crack with that? arguably i have noticed there's a HUGE wad of clay lodged into the cleat recess of the left hand shoe... that can't do much for the clippage, but still!!
I want to get a pair of Sidis, but ebay my lord and master keeps showing me triple figure shoes and i want something cheap cheap cheap... I dont even really want to stretch to 90 quid (plus shipping) for a pair of dominators. Any ideas guys?

i think you may have multi release cleats? not all shimano spd cleats are created equal.
i may be completely wrong as i use times. -

ah cleats my bad. the tension is on the absolute maximum. Might try buying new cleats tomorrow then as it is fucking me right off. Even though the tension is hellishly high, it doesnt take much/any effort to clip into them really...?

• #37
get someone down at the bike shop to have a quick look at the set up !

Will do tomorrow when i buy new cleats. Thanks tynan!

eyebrows where do you find these holiest of holy pedals?
I think http://www.supercycles.co.uk/ has got 'em in, but there website is crap so you probably need to phone them to check.

Also get the right cleats !
There are Shimano cleats in different flavours and they don't all play well together.

I have multi-release cleats and don't pull my feet.
Are you sure you've gone the right way with the tension screw? I only unclip when I'm sliding the back side to side skidding and my foot twists and once doing standing start with low tension on the track (duh!).
Oh yeah, these cleats were 5+ years old already.I've heard of people having issues with non-genuine cleats.. you're not using Wellgo cleats or something are you?

i turned them towards the plus sign - assming that means more tension? also these are the cleats that came with the pedals so i guess theyre shimano ones. will check the pedals in a bit, but i have to say i never get like a big satisfying click or anything, just a sort of half arsed one.

Hey henry don't worry yoself. I am just a retard, other people ride with SPDs quite happily. Mine are just "special".
-
• #45
You didn't bolt the cleats backwards or something? :)
No, seriously, check! :)
No really, I'm not joking!

nix shimano, they are part of that elitist NJS conspiracy, they are amateurs at clipless to boot- the times and looks last forever and plus, they are large enough tthat I can ride them with regular shoes without having those goofy platform/clipless jobs or changing out pedals all of the time. And because their plates are larger, the force is more evenly distributed on the sole and breakage is less likely. I am however tempted by the illusive M2 ti pedal weighting in at a meer 95g! which would nicely offset the weight sacrifice I made when switching from a selle slr to a brooks team.

SPD is still the biggest seller and SPD-SL has probably now surpassed the LOOKs which they improved on for biggest seller for race shoes. SPDs aren't flawless but they pretty good and SPD-SL are beautiful.
I'd still love to try other systems but Bill said my knees would melt into gloopy pools of gloop if I 'fooled around' :) and if it ain't broke..

shimano were the people who pioneered clipless pedals weren't they? Which way round SHOULD the cleats go? with the curvy pointy bit at the front and the square tab at the back?

Good, i'm not a total cretin. :)
Bebop deluxe.
Steel axle, no rider weight limits or any titanium nonsense, lighter than just about any other pedal system out there, even Speedplay, Shimanos top end pedals are almost twice the weight of these babies.
Used them for over 10 years, never had to service them, not even re-grease.
++ incredibly low stack height.
They are simply fantastic.
