• glad you bumped this, but link isn't working...in fact their site seems to be down.....any info???

  • The site is working. Can you not get to it? I'll copy and paste it all for you if it's not working.

  • site works for me - maybe a temporary glitch? anyway, the details are:

Meet 8-8.30 am outside the German Gym Pancras Road opposite the entrance to St Pancras International. Ride the roads round the station to highlight the problems. photo Call at 9.30. We'll then wait for departing passengers at 10.30 and arrivals from Europe at 11 am.

    map of the area:

    see you there?

  • Here's more info and proof of how important the demo is. I'll be there (so hopefully Mike will be too!). I'd like to take my bike on Eurostar. Simple.
Would I like to park my bike at King's Cross? maybe but currently it's worth an awful lot of dime bags to those lovely King's Cross residents. Perhaps if they had something to lock it to that wasn't made of foil, oh wait, that's the whole point....

    From Trevor Parsons

(Note the comments re the bike hanger hooks in eurostar, a point I have made repeatedly in the past, [I must make the point again in the future when some people are actually in earshot, not when I am on my own and mumbling to myself])

A reminder of that the demo at St Pancras is this Wednesday morning, the
day Eurostar services start using it.

Full details and background are here:
    http://www.camdencyclists.org.uk/camden/campaigns/eurostar/eurostar-demo-11-14-10

Chastened by the impending demo and bad press already generated, London
& Continental Railways and NCP are now rushing to install adequate bike
parking, initially for 100 bikes, which should be mostly in place by
Wednesday. (I'm pretty sure they'll be correctly spaced 'cos I drew up
the plans for them the other day!)

But as you can see on the Camden Cyclists page above, cycle parking
isn't the only problem. There's also a plush new one-way system around
the station, with no facility for contraflow cycling, and you are still
not allowed to take an unfolded bike with you on the Eurostar, despite
there having been a space and hooks dedicated for the purpose on the
    trains since they were built.

We need to make a tangible statement that forgetting about cycling at a
transport hub is not acceptable, so please do make effort to get down to
St Pancras on Wednesday morning if you can.

8am for 8.30, German Gym, Pancras Road (opposite station entrance).

    Hope to see you there!

    Cheers,

    Trevor

  • People, keep this bumped.. I'd like to be there.. if only for the sake of Belgian beer and bikes!

  • at 8am?

  • I'm usually at work (Liverpool St.) at 8am.. so yeah.. why not?

  • but where sells belgian beer at 8am near there? or are you packing your own?

  • Sucks. I've gotta be at work for 9am. Really wanted to go but I'd have to leave at 8.30. Every other day this week would have been fine!

  • I have to go to Reading for the day. Train outta Paddington at 7:30.

Arse. I really want to support this.

  • anyone awake? see you in a little while ;-)

  • 8am? WTF! Do they just not want people to show up?

Is this being staged by London & Continental Railways and NCP?

  • it's a continuing protest until about 10.30, i think, and people are encouraged to show up when and for as long as they can. i've gotta be elsewhere at 9.30 so will be there for a bit. you?

  • Nice to meet you DOcA

amazingly they'd put in new bike parking THE NIGHT BEFORE....in anticiaption of the protest.......... this is a small achievement but it was probably due to publicity reasons rather than a genuine desire to provide sustainable transport facilities....the new racks are only bolted down BUT are within a secure Car Park (with hundreds of car spaces! they can probably accomodate 80 bikes....if the stacks of bike at other stations are anything to go by this will be nowhere near enough.....still not allowed to take your bike on the train either....unfortunate being as there is a public transport strike in Paris today so all those going over on the first trains could do with a bike when they get there.

Hung around to see the first train go....I like trains.

    really interesting photos:

  • Good to see the plod were there to stop the 4 locked up bikes from being taken, are they part of the bike security, full time bike plod?

  • I think they were making sure that the anarchist cyclists (mostly in their 60s) didn't create any trouble...they were pleasant enough though....

  • i mentioned this to a collegue. he said, "cyclists can fuck off, trains are for people."

Gues who got all the shitty artworking jobs this week!

    aaaahahah!

  • wYs i mentioned this to a collegue. he said, "cyclists can fuck off, trains are for people."

punch him hard in the guts, from me.

  • I am really confused at the hatered that cycling brings up in many people because once they where "nearly run over by a bike" or "driving along and this bike poped out from on where I had to swerve ...", but most people have been cut up e.t.c by bad driving but they don't hate cars?

  • It's like the cars honking us riding to Brighton.. but do they beep at the horses? No. Do they beep at other cars in front of them? No.
Like I said.. legalise homicide and I'll be the first in the queue for a machine pistol..

  • hippy i'll admit there were some out of order cars on the way to brighton,

but don't forget there are some nice ones, an audi was stuck doing 20 behind us for ages and didn't here a peep from them

so it can swing both ways

  • I think though, really, the point is it shouldn't have to swing both ways. some of these dicks need educating.

  • I know there are good drivers out there but the point is cyclist get mroe than there fair shear of flack from drivers and the general public in well general. People tend to dis like bikes unless it is a family outing round a lake.

  • "cyclists can fuck off, trains are for people."

Sounds like a reasoned, well thought out and intelligent standpoint to me...you can tell him I said so...how do you do a "you're a fucking wanker" smiley?
