  • Having now checked out colour tech, i'm pretty plased with what i;ve seen. the finished frames looked amazing. Apparantly, eric clapton was getting his bike resparyed. it was a beautiful cinelli frame in the trademark pale metallic blue finish - he was going to get got reprayed grey

anyway, colour tech is only a 30min train jorney from london bridge (which works out quite well for me as a live near by + 5 mins ride at other end

the work can take between 2 to 3 weeks and it is much more expsinsive compared to vaz but i feel assuared that the quality will reflect the price.

I'll post up a pic when i get the frame back.

  • Eric Clapton rides?

    well I never..

  • he had to pray for grey? he couldve just asked :P

  • prototype I do want the lugs lined so have i essentially limited my choice to vaz.

I spoke to Armoutec a while ago as I'm in a similar position, and had an interesting chat with one of their guys. Basically for their higher price (£65?) they do a colour coat followed by a clear gloss. I was enquiring about the possibility of lining the lugs myself in between the coats if you see what I mean. They had never had anyone try it but they were up for the chance, the only issue is that the lug lining paint needs to stand up to 200 degrees C.

I spoke to armoutec yesterday as well and although i hadn;t enquired about doing the lining myself the guy did suggest bringing the frame along to them and seeing what they could do. he didn;t sound like he was promissing anything though... i wonder if they might diversify with enough interest.

Is that a Vaz paint job? Seems pretty damn good if its the one that was flickr'd a week or 2 ago.

  • yep, vaz did a good job on mine. "one of his better ones" is the usual comment. i prob got lucky. but really, the paintwork on every other frame i saw in his shop looked pretty good to me.

  • fair dos -

had a look at it and fbralph got a lovely crisp paintjob from vaz

  • Perversely, it seems to be the case that Vaz is good at doing slightly more complicated work - like lug lining etc...

It is his bog-standard resprays that seem to be of dubious quality.

  • what is lug lining?

  • It's the colour around the edges of the lugs

See the gold lines on the green and white frame above

  • 'Lug Lining' is a hand-painted border at the edge of the lugs. E.g. the gold lining in fatboyralphs picture above ^^^^^.
It looks quite time-consuming, but is a classic detail for a lugged frame.

  • D'oh!

  • yes Ian, it is me! ha ha!

  • oh, i was meant to whisper that. whoops

  • haha - you're a bike geek too...
