hippy How far do you ride it? What are they like for say 1hr riding? smiling-buddha if you're listening this applies to you too.. and any other folder peeps out there.
Yes, I'm still considering my options. Gunning down everyone in the city is a little more difficult than I first thought.I'm riding from Charing Cross Hospital for South Kensington (Imperial College). It's pretty comfy, although it is a little small for me with the current seat post (could do with being a couple inches higher). I find the bottom bracket is too far under me, so I'm pedalling a bit differently to what I'm used to on my fix.
If I spent a bit of money on it, I reckon it'd be just as comfy for long riding as any other bike. Not going to bother though because it's just a temporary measure until I move into my own place, rather than halls.
My Brompton is a 2-speed. Basically spinning and mashing. The mashing I think is 77", if I remember the Brompton web site correctly. I find it fine, London is so bloody flat it's almost stupid. Makes my hometown look like the alps (and I had no problems riding fixed there).
I looked into fixing it (LPG whispered a link) and I don't think I can. I need a uniformed rear triangle, which Bromptons don't have. Ah well....
Buddha - Nice, looks sweet.
Hippy - you want a fixed folder then? Look at this: http://www.foldsoc.co.uk/Mike/fixed_airnimal.html If you got a second hand Dahon you could do it nice and cheap.

eeehhh, have you saved an inch and a bit by clamping the saddle bracket as high up the seat tube as you can?
-
• #39
get a room guys, take your bromptons with you, and get into all the seriously heavy folding action you could hope for, away from our sensitive eyes.

hippy, ive ridden the dahon vitesse d7 to work few times. east putney to city. takes me 30-35mins. not much slower than the fixed. it's a 7 speed. i agree the diff between gears is stupid. either a hard slog or your spinning like crazy. but, it can be as fast as you like, i pass loads of people with that...even roadies!
the dahon's 20" so not as twitchy as the 16" bromptons. though it still is twitchy...but its maneuverability is excellent. good for weaving through tight spots.
been looking for thinner tyres for extra speed
-

I have seen some folders that are reasonably fast.. no, really, they exist! :)
What width tyres do they generally take? What rims are they? I wonder if Vredestein do S-Licks for 16 and 20"?
-
• #49
comes with 1.5in baloons as standard. what size tyre you got there up front smiling-budha? i think schwalbe makes 1in ones for 20s?
havent yet checked how thin my rims would allow me to go...

The stock optional extra on a Brompton is a Schwalbe Stelvio, although you can also get the Schwalbe Marathons from other stockists. The Marathons are 1 3/8", not sure on the Stelvios. Pump the fcukers right up and they end up pretty narrow anyway!
(cue wayno with a pic!!)
