  • oh and skinny jeans at all times.

  • i got a front brake.
but im using my foot to slow the back one so im shredding up my shoes.

why the fuck are you using your shoes on your tyres to slow down???

  • Welcome to the forum Mister Shred.

  • If you cant grasp the locking the legs thing just put a stick in the back wheel.

  • {captain fucking obvious} You don't need to skid to stop. Learn to stop properly before you start messing about with tricks.{/captain fucking obvious}

Also, put some skateboard grip tape on your shoes, they'll last longer and chicks will dig you lots.

+1 I think you've got the wrong idea man

  • why the fuck are you using your shoes on your tyres to slow down???

AND how the fuck are you managing to do that?? Are you clipped/ strapped in with the other foot at the same time?

When you get your front brake you can use it to unload the back wheel making it much easier to stop it turning...

Riding on the road with no brake is a bad idea in my book...

  • I just bought myself my first fixed gear bike.
    And i'm having trouble braking.
I've tried locking my legs but i cant get the wheels to stop turning.
They just force my legs around.
    Any ideas why ?

Another thought might be because you are a puny weakling like a malnourished ten year old. Harden The Fuck Up

Keep trying to lock those legs until it works. If you end up bouncing off a car or a lamppost just remember that whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger so it's good that you got hurt anyway.

The only other way to toughen up those spindly wimp legs is to to kick a copper in the nuts and run away.

    it's 48/15.
whats best to get it changed to?
and do you change the chainring or the bottom bracket?

I had trouble stopping my 48/15 fuji with just my legs at first especially when I had built up a bit of momentum... but I had a front brake fitted when I bought the bike so no worries there. Eventually I built up enough strength to stop without the brake in most situations (and skid in the wet). I've now changed to 48/17 and found it much easier to stop. I can also skid like a devil but after watching my back wheel gradually wear down I've decided to mostly cut that out... Why you feel like using your foot to brake when you've got a front brake I just can't imagine!

because that how it look when you see her back legs nearly touching the rear wheel I suppose!

  • i dont want to go straight over my bars.
ive had a couple of crashes. whats the best way to stop unbraked?

what other ways are there to stop brakeless

  • i dont want to go straight over my bars.

    by using your fucking brake.

  • With that gearing it's hardly neccesary to hang over the bars like a child at the zoo

  • skipping, and skidding. These things take a little time to learn. Def ride with both brakes at first, when you feel comfortable, take off the rear, and then the front if you like (though i would keep the front indefinitely).
First thing you need to do IMO is buy an 18 tooth rear sprocket.
48:18 is about 72 gear inches, which is generally considered about right for city riding, skidding skipping etc. My knees wouldn't last long brakeless on 48:15.

  • I don't get all this humping the bar bollocks, or skidding for fun?
When I skid its to stop thats it, and I do it upright on the bike, so you actually slow down, as opposed to carrying on at the same speed with your back wheel dragging along wrecking your tyres......

  • Personally I would go even lower for city riding, you want it sub 70GI IMO, I run 66GI brakeless and it makes skidding/controlling speed/stopping really easy, and much kinder on your knees.

i feel that maybe you should have brought a grey hybrid instead of a fuji track.

    1. buy a brake
    2. buy a new rear spocket (19tooth if you want to skid lots and not go fast, or 18tooth if you want to go a bit faster).
    3. leave chain ring and bottom bracket alone.
    4. get a bike shop to change your spocket as you really don't have a clue - they'll do it for a fiver.
    5. buy a brake
  • When you get better at skidding you'll learn to whip the back wheel out as well, which scrubs off speed a lot quicker, and of course you've got skip stops also, which are pretty handy, and probably a faster way of stopping, but slightly more tiring on your legs to execute.

hey forms - you want that frame or not? you've got 10mins to pm me or it's gone so someone else.

  • wait a sec, really want to clear this up.

Fujiboy - are you actually jamming your foot on the rear tyre, a la Ted Shred?

no they're not. faster than what? face plant into truck?

  • Faster than skidding sometimes, depends how good you are at them ;)

  • Maybe stop doing these:

ive had a couple of crashes.

your joking right? i can't even conceive how you'd even do that riding fixed as your other foot is in revolution, can you expand on this please.

maybe you need new gearing but leave your bottom bracket alone.
