Hi,
I'm trying to put some parts together for a single speed build but one part is eluding me. I'm trying to find the same stem that's used on the Surly Steamroller bike. The site lists it as a Kalloy 1-1/8" threadless. Forged. 25.4mm clamp. Silver and after hours of searching I actually found the Kalloy site. However, their measurements are all metric and I couldn't really find what I was looking for. That and I can't seem to find any of their dealers that stock much variety of their parts?
I like the kind of ribbed section just below the clamp.
It's also kind of similar to the Charge Plug...
Any help or suggestions much appreciated!

That 'ribbed section' (oooerr) is most likely just a stack of silver spacers, and not part of the stem itself. they fill up the extra space between your headset and stem if you are too lazy to chop your fork steerer to the correct length.

+1 to spacers
as for the stem it's a flipped stem most likely 80mm with a 10 degree rise. look for x-lite,kalloy,kore or ritchy for a cheap stem that this can be done to.
you acn even get it in an 1" if you look hard enough. -

Hi! I'm thinking of ordering an OTP Steamroller online and I'm wondering what size to go for. None of the bike shops nearby stock 'em, so it's unlikely I'll get to try one out. I suspect 56 is my size, looking at the top tube length (56.8) and comparing to my Large Charge Plug (which is 56.6 TTL).
Are there any six-foot-exactly folks out there who ride 59cm Steamrollers? Is that biologically possible? I do like a big frame, but the TTL combined with stock 12cm stem seems to make for too long a stretch.
Presumably anyone who is 6 foot will have a 56 frame?

I'm just interested. Why have you chosen a steamroller? If you've not ridden one yet, pay the money to get somewhere to try one. I've also ridden a Charge for a bit, and the medium felt massive to me, so a 53cm Creamroller is my choice of commuter. But i had to ride it first to make sure.

I don't know where you live, but my shop stock the steam roller. I ride a 53, I'm 5'10", but I'm also weir proportion (aka female).
Come by Brixton cycles if you have the chance, we seem to be Surly central at the moment so there will be a few sizes to stand over. -

The Plug is a big bike, I have both an M and an L. I hop between two locations during the week, with a bike in each, and am considering selling the M (I find it too small) and getting a Steamroller for the sake of something different.

I'm exactly 6' and ride a 56 Steamroller. Feels perfect.
Got it from BC as well - they were lovely.

snap again. but if you're not sure go down to brixton and try one out, they are very nice in there. chances are you won't be able to find one cheaper online so might as well spend your cash in a good shop.
!Nhattattack! I didnt realise a forumite worked in there (although I guess that is kind of inevitable). I was in a couple of thursday's ago hanging around whilst my steamroller was built, sorry if my loitering was annoying. it was well worth it though, it's an awesome bike.
edit: just read you live in Ireland, so Brixton is a bit of a mission, cool shop though

Thanks for the advice folks, this is a help! Anyone 6 foot members riding a 59 Steamroller out there? I'd imagine a shortened stem would be needed for that?

I've done the same - bought my roller about 6 months ago and have been slowly making her my own... did the London to Brighton the other month and didn't stop smiling the whole way - proudly up ditching beacon in one go on the 48:19.
