  • hamster Going to resurrect this topic.
I have the crankset at the bottom of this page, the RD2.
    http://www.suginoltd.co.jp/singlespeeder_e.html

They say this gives a chainline of 45mm. I've got Goldtec hubs with an EAI cog, which should give a chainline slightly more than 45mm. However my chainline is out by more than slightly (at least a couple of mm). Who's wrong?
The spindle is 103mm. Am I right in thinking that a new bb with a spindle about 107 (ie the miche mentioned above) should fix the problem?

    Cheers for that
    Dan

i've got the same combo, miraculously a campy centaur 111mm BB is spot on! NOTE: i didn't plan it this way.

  • mm, dogs, i have exactly the same set-up too.

  • actually technically i have the black 75's

  • oops, sorry mine are silver .....

  • thanks guys, but my cranks aren't actually the 75s, they're the RD2 (which came stock on the 06 langster). i wonder how much these cranks differ from the 75s, chainline wise. they're JIS taper so campy is out.
after a bit of research i think that the stronglight JD400 (107mm spindle) is the way forward, but can't seem to find any british sources for them. perhaps will can sort me out

    cheers

  • i have the same bike, with a goltec rear.my chainline is out about 2mm, so if it's a 103, if you buy a 107, effectively your are moving the crank chainline 2mm out, so in theory it should be ok, with a 107mm

  • yeah 107 on a ISO, but as i said above a 111 JIS will also work, if you happen to have one (also mega easy to get on ebay, mine was £17, which is awesome value)

actually, i did also try a 107 shimano BB, but it sat out for a reason. so in reality that one fit better.

NOTE: sometimes the threads on the BB don't extend further enough into the BB or the rear end is a stretched out 116mm to 120mm which throws shit into the works ;) . TIP for the day, brought to you dogsballs mechanics pty ltd

Shimano do a few 107mm JIS taper BBs which should sort you out. UN53 is a bit cheaper, but good. UN73 is a bit lighter. By the way, the 110mm Shimano BBs give the same chainline, as the extra 3mm is all on the non-drive side.
