  • Uber lightweight, and british made:

  • Unlike MyGoodSelf....

  • if its less than a foot long its not cool, not matter what you think
(you'll only get this if you've seen my bike)

  • 8 ft seatpost is very much 'de jour'...

The USE alien is great, god knows I have gone through enough of them over the last decade - they are even better now they have redesigned the clamp - but for simplicity and super-lightweight nothing comes close to the New-Ultimate.

The USE Titanium is actually heavier than the standard USE Aluminum post, but the titanium in nicer looking :).

;P ;P ;P - (the New-Ultimate below is wrongly labeled 31.6mm like the gold one above, it is actually 30.9mm)

  • Uh-oh. Have we become weight-weenies or something? Surely strength, durability, longevity, aesthetics and the like all count for far far more than a few grams shaved off.

  • The only thing I use scales for isn't publishable on the web.

  • Really? Go on..
I use 'em to see just how dehydrated I am. Wouldn't you know it, I'm always VERY fscking dehydrated!

I like the USE posts even though I'm not into weight saving and I love the documentary reporting style from leeww. It's like Which mag for bike parts :)

A few grams is, as you point out, pretty pointless - but if you reduce the weight of your bike by a third (or even half!) god knows you will feel it.

Many people will tell you of the epiphany of riding fixed for the first time, how great it felt and so on, the same was true for me, fixed felt great, very connected with the bike/road - equally so the first time I got on a fully geared 17lb bike (coming from a shit 30lb bike) it was unbelievable, it was like riding a gazelle, it was so easy to stop in a tiny distance, to throw around corners and accelerate.

    Weight-weenie ? Hell yeah !

  • What was the title of this thread? ;-)
