not great around here, I still like 9th life, bit far from HG though.

Not the biggest shoreditch fan, pubs around Liverpool Street or North towards Dalston are better, and plenty of them.

Owl and the pussycat is entirely tolerable in my experience
-

Owl and Pussycat is generally my go to round there, it's ok but has been fairly hipstered over the years.
There's the Barley Mow if you're looking for more of a proper pub.
-

Thanks for those suggestions! "Proper pub" sounds more promising.

The Bricklayers used to be honest enough if Barley Mow is crowded. But like others I would spend five more mins on the bike and sup somewhere better

Yeah, that'd be ideal for me but I'm meeting some friends from out of town for a quicky after I finish work and before they head to a gig so have a very narrow time window!

Brockley Brewery Hither Green Taproom IMO, otherwise, the Lord Northbrook in Lee is perfectly fine, it's a Fullers thats been refurbished recently.

I actually like the Station the best.
When I've dropped in to the Brockley Brewery taproom somehow I find the clientele annoying. Like a garden party or one day festival everyone seems entirely too self-congratulatory. Loads of kids running around entertaining themselves in the next door carparks. Not quite my vibe.
Park Fever is a bit niche and snooty.
Drink at Bob's is ok but quite small - it's in second place to the station.
Further afield I quite like the Fox and Firkin, I don't like Ninth Life, I haven't tried the relocated Catford Constitutional, I do like the Bellingham Fellowship, further still the Perry Hill pub and Blythe Hill Tavern are both good.

looking for a decent sized family/kid friendly pub, Angel/Essex Road sides, for a gathering, this weekend. Friend is over from the states, with their small person, so looking to catch up in a place that isn't too lad, or sports orientated.

… stroll down the canal - The Narrowboat on the north side but bit further down is the Wenlock Arms … cracking old fashioned pub - very nice beers and a park next to it for kids

The Island Queen is nice and usually quieter as its down a side street. Otherwise for the kids- the garden is large in the Cannonbury if the weather is ok

Any recommendations for a pre-dinner pub near Bank?

The Jamaican wine house?
Or if you wanna go fancy (ish) you could go to the bar in the Ned.
It’s all city vibes.

The Counting House on Cornhill is a Fuller pub, quite impressive interior
The Pelt Trader down the side of Cannon St is very basic but has a multitude of craft beers
Harry's Bar in Abchurch Yard a nice cosy wine bar / restaurant. Or the Vintry next door is unoffensive enough, nice to drink in courtyard (although maybe not tonight) -

Thank you both! In Counting House for the time being. Very nice.

Heading over to Surrey Quays tomorrow for 2pm, looking for someplace decent to maybe eat, but definitely have a shandy or two, preferably with outdoor seating, and not miles away from the odeon.
Thanks

The Mayflower, hands down. Great historic pub on the river, food is decent.

^This. Or Dog & Bell, Deptford.

Ship and Whale used to be decent, big outdoor space, but haven't been in about 15 years...

Anyone know any pubs in Soho/nearby that might be showing the cricket next week?
-
• #848
I've definitely been in the Stag's Head on Cavendish Street one lunchtime and the county cricket was on.
I'd be amazed at any pub with Sky that wasn't showing the Ashes.
-
• #849
The Green Man on Berwick Street will be showing it, probably the Shakespeare's Head too. Although Soho isn't great for sport generally.

Although Soho isn't great for sport generally.
No indeed. I may check out the Green Man, though the Stag's Head of New Cavendish Street looks to be better (not been, but I certainly have been to the Green Man).
Pubs in or near Hither Green that aren’t the station?
