Right, I've now got some photos through from Robin of the bike with paint on it - it's being delivered next weekend...
It's almost complete in the photos, the only thing remaining to do is install the wiring loom for the light setup (SuperNova E3 F&R) - all the wiring will be internally routed, and you can see the mounting hole on the front of the stem and the plate on the rack to accept the lights themselves.

That's first-rate craftsmanship.

Holy Honjo! Nice bicycle.
Does the wiring for the rear light go through the rack + how is it mounted to the seatstays? -
• #81
Jeebus that's tasty, you are a very lucky man.

I think it goes through the rear rack, Robin has the job of putting it all in place...
If the question abou seatstay mounting was related to the rack, it's got a single-sided arm into a boss on the seatstay;
If it was related to the rear light, the light itself is mounted on a plate on the back of the rack which you can see on the final photograph of the set, it looks like this, I don't know where the wiring will run - again Robin is in charge of this!

That is outstandingly beautiful. Wow. Did RM make the rack as well?

Yes, custom-fabricated stainless steel rack

Don't leave THAT outside the Prince of Thieves for the lock in.

nice, i would've left the stem as chrome or steel. bit too colour co-ordinated.

can't wait to see the lovely matching colours on the gimp

I think the stem works but why is the front mudguard not the same length as the rear?

Robin doesn't do chrome (too environmentally destructive) and Argos don't do a clear powder-coat because it doesn't hold up well to regular use. Painting it silver just seemed like a silly idea.

It's exactly the same length - it just starts at a different point on the wheel, hence ends at a different point too. They're the extra long version, because I don't like getting wet feet...

anodised then?!? don't get me wrong, looks awesome.
murtle, my stem and post match the forks. things have been very carefully colour co-ordinated. got my toe clips back the other day for one of the final bits in the puzzle. ;)

like VB, I'm also on Rob's wait list for a SSCX bike. I haven't hear from rob since i mailed in shock in response to his post on his website in july!
VB, have you heard from Rob recently?

I am on Rob's list too. I pinged him a couple of weeks ago when he changed the wording on his site and he replied to say that he's working through his back-order. Relax!
I'm interested to know more about how people are arriving at their final geometry. How much of this does Rob help with and how much do you rely on other measurements (like CycleFit)?
I'm no expert here, but a while back I got it into my head that I needed to own a really nice steel bike and the next thing I knew I'd forked out for a place on Rob's waiting list.

Oh god I just looked at that bike on the last page^^ again. It's a dream.

Amazing build there,
im thinking some white cables would finish of the outstanding attention to detail though?

i heard back from rob this week. woo hoo.
looks as though rob's schedule has my frame build some time in spring next year.
to be honest, i think that geometry and sizing is beyond me to add anything worthwhile!
on that basis, i spoke to roger at mosquito about a sizecycle fitting. it turns out that roger has worked with some of rob's customers before so i'm leaving myself in their hands to work out something between them.
i have a few component specification wants/likes which will impact on final measurements that i hope that they can accomodate. other than that, it's down to them!
He's assured me he'll pick up the torch once he's back from taking a break - I'm probably going to plonk down a deposit for a mountain bike frame so I'm fairly early in the queue once he gets going again.
But yes, I feel very happy I got on the waiting list when I did - both because it's been long enough (~18 months) and because if I'd waited much longer I'd not have had the opportunity. Not to mention the fact that he's been outstanding to work with, an absolute artist, and I won't be able to afford beer for a long time once I've paid for the bike!
