I spotted Skully taking his beautiful Mercian for a spin. I was driving the car and he stopped to let me cut across him into a car park; what a gent.
Then realised we were going to the same party - the first time in my 18 months living in London that i've met someone at a party that i've known from elsewhere - it made me feel warm and fuzzy. Nice to talk to you Skully.

I had to drive into the office yesterday to pick up presents from grateful clients that were simply too big to carry on my bike. Driving home along the Hipster Highway (Great Eastern Street end) I saw numerous fixed riders going slowly two by two. I realised then that it was the tail end of the alley cat.
I have to deliver quite a lot of those 'presents' at this time of year. And I always think the same things: people who can afford to buy champagne end up getting it for free. And in less 'developed' countries these 'presents' would be called 'kickbacks' or 'bribes'. :)

I was even enlisted by my father to deliver bottles and chocolates to his team in Fulham this morning (he lives in Wales, and had forgotten about them last time he was down here). Needless to say, I will be charging him the going rate.
(Tangent: A friend of mine teaches at Westminster School, and seems to get given expensive bottles of stuff by every single parent, at the end of every term. His wine cellar contains more than I will probably drink in my life.)

Au contraire dear chap. These were expressions of gratitude from clients who appreciated that the work done for them over the past year was worth more than they paid for it. In less developed countries this expression of gratitude would be the equivalent of the government official giving a pressie to a supplier and that never happens.
