Never said it was about me. But i did say that i don't, and never have made a comment based on looks in this thread.
Please don't say that I am making this issue about me, because i'm not. I've been sat in the corner on this issue for ages now, and have never spoken up. It's just my opinion, and it wasn't meant to offend.
If you honestly think that your existence seems to be judged by whether people want to fuck you, or not, then I think you are hanging out with the wrong crowd.
And i do constantly get yelled at by van drivers!
Mine? Never said anything about mine. But I do know how some women feel when they've had a full day of cycling around while being constantly yelled at/beeped at.
Your post was all about how you saw things. Your opinion doesn't offend me at all, of course it doesn't; I am just trying to point out that, as a man, your self-avowed inability to understand why it offends some women is entirely predictable and understandable. Why would you understand? Why would you expect to, really?

Personally, I think that I would resent posts that say "Saw a fat ugly old bastard pushing an over-geared bike up a slight incline". Potentially offensive personal remarks are unnecessary when we have names or other ways of describing us. Perhaps "silver haired chap struggling up a slope on a beautiful black Glider" would suffice even without the addition of "wearing unfortunate black lycra".
Mind you, Will keeps calling me a fat **** and I don't mind that but maybe it's because it is Will and it is hard not to like Will.
I think if someone called my bike over-geared i'd be really upset too.

What's his 'self-avowed inability' got to do with it? You could have just said "man" and left it at that. Maybe some people don't like to be referred t... oh I can't be bothered.

Well, forms did admit that he couldn't see the problem, so it's an accurate description.
I'm guessing that plurabelle's suggesting empathy is less likely if you've not been in the situation yourself. It might be seen as less 'predictable and understandable' if the same views were voiced by a woman.
Whenever the subject of sexism used to come up in my childhood household (usually during some TV programme, as that was the leisure time mainstay for my parents), my mother would end up saying stuff like, "women have gone too far these days", and other ridiculous reactionary self-enslaving shit.

Some fucking gimp on a celeste coloured Bianchi, heading east on Old St. Do you have to bomb through every red light, guy? If you must, as least learn to control your bike.

Hmmmm. I know that certain people on this here forum are against the posting of descriptions such as; pretty girl, gorgeous lady, voluptuous woman etc. But I for one just don't bloody get it. I
I think Corny's point that a physical description doesn't add to the "spot'', isn't really accurate. People will say things like; 'saw a bloke wearing ridiculous skinny jeans and an awful haircut..." without batting an eye, or being told off for it.
I think that people need to lighten up, and stop trying to stop people posting what they want. If it isn't offensive, sexist, racist, derogatory, or anything else nasty - I don't
descriptions of people are great, its what they are designed for, to describe them.. but pretty, gorgeous, sexy, doesn't describe them, it describes how YOU see them, unless of course your being sarcastic.
my perception of any person riding a bike whether I find them attractive or not is that if I post them up in here, I want other people to know whom I'm describing, so blonde girl with red backpack, blue frame and black rear deep v will suffice. All the other descriptions I could put in just get in the way, because she's sexy, gorgeous or pretty.@ cyoa, the orginal post was intended to illustrate the use of pretty to describe the girl, rather than the lack of description of the bike, no one needs to post up any components they don't know but the more info you give, the better chance someone or that person in particular if they are on this here forum will know who you're talking about.
and anyway we're on a cycling forum, talking about bikes 24/7, if you can't tell the difference between a deepv and a rigida dp18 at several hundred paces, then what are you doing here. ;-P

corney, it is as trivial as it is wicked to think of you being spotted all over the world. good work as always dude

Corney
Correct
I think you are gorgeous but not everyone necessarily agrees and therefore if I posted that I saw a gorgeous man on a bike they would not know to whom I was referring until I mentioned the multi-coloured Sidis.

I take offence to that... What about noobs? I can barely tell when a wheel is round and what a seet stay is... (what IS a seet stay???)
Lol - not really. This topic comes up every 6 months or so. Maybe we should start a dating thread!!!

He said he didn't understand why women find it offensive. Therefore he has a self-avowed inability to understand it. my slightly wordy point was merely that, well - duh. Of course he doesn't...
I can't be bothered either though. I don't even mind it myself, I'm just sticking up for those who do.
