I'm relatively new to fixed wheel bikes (had mine about 5 months) and I still don't realise why people have toptube pads, anyone care to tell me?

Why else, for the Lolz..
Some think it provides protection, but id never hit my sack on the top tube. I think its also to protect the top tube form hits etc, and to cushion the riders shoulder if being carried.

All of which i picked up from random FG websites, but all seem pretty plausible.
There probably is a real reason.

The shoulder one seems like a semi-decent reason, though the shoulder strap on my backpack normally takes care of that.

It's for when you chain it up, when you lean the frame against the pole or w/e.

I have this touching delusion that it's to keep the bike warm. But really, I think it's so that you don't ding your top tube when you lean it against lamp posts.
