  • where doing a recce this sat on road bikes. anyone welcome. broadway market 9am.

  • BMMF i can't find an entry for Bec?

  • Have a good ride down, up then back!

I can now answer the original OP'ers question. I rode up at the weekend on 50" fixed, my lungs nearly burst out of my stomach. Need to loose at least half a stone to be vaguely non-disappointing, so am going to miss out entering this year. Will defintitely pencil it in for next though!

Does someone want to start a new thread for the ride down on the 12th? I would, but seeing as I'm already in Kent it would be a bit of a waste of time me coming up to town to come back down.

If you're not sorted by this evening, email me - I've got an email from Garry (Bec) in my trash folder with all the details.

  • sorted.

  • The Catford Hill Climb has been won on 54" fixed before and Matt said he was spinning out at the beginning but you need a low gear for the last 1in 4 bit.
If I'm not marshalling I shall be watching, see you all there.

  • i find it hard enough getting over waterloo bridge on 46tx17t.... not recommended for the Bec Hill climb...

    ... good luck!.x

  • I just looked on the site to see where in catford the hill is... (cos I thought to myself, theres no big hills in catford) ...its bloody miles away!! looks like a good day out though, have fun!

I'm in for the Recce. Don't want to come North to Broadway market just to go south again, so do you know the route you'll be taking and I'll work out to meet you somewhere?

I don't even want to go east from Old Street to Broadway Market :)

We'll be going via Old St, over Blackfriars, past the Elephant, through Camberwell, up the hill towards Herne Hill but turn left down Sunray (?), through Dulwich (College Rd), Crystal Palace, down Annerly (sp?), Elmers End, blah-de-blah.

Cafe St Germain on the Crystal Palace Parade (top of Annerly) is a major hook up spot for cyclists. We'd be there by 10am, possibly closer to 9.45am.

Thanks. I'll wait for you at Cafe St. Germain at 9.45am. See you then!

  • And as I'm not going to Broadway Market, I'll be waiting at the Old St/Goswell Rd junction from just after 9am, outside the Costa or whatever it is (at the lights).

  • How did the ride to catford go - what ratio did people go up in ? i went up on a 53 last week and struggled on last section but then i suppose all except the super strong sprinters do on this bit.

Nobody went yet it's next Sunday so you still have time to come and watch yourself.

  • Oh - i thought people were going down to test it out. I'm entered and am still wondering what gear to use. I don't want to resort to gears but am having second thoughts. I've been up it loads of times but when you try to race it its a different beast.

  • I've done it on 51.5" (2m07), 50.5" (2m12), 55" (2m04), 60" (untimed), and with gears.

If you've managed it on 53", maybe you should just stick with that and see how it works out in competition...

  • They are phenemenol times and christ knows how you got up it on a 60. I'll be happy if I get under 3 mins.

  • he is the same weight as one of hippy's legs ;)

  • Fixed ;)
Where you trying to state part of dogsballs IP address as last time I checked there was only ever one "." in any given number.

  • he is the same weight as one of hippy's legs ;)

My body mass index is 22, and I'm not that short. And hippy isn't that fat. (there, I've said it)

But I've got more power in one of my legs than your entire body :p
