• yep.

The darker version of the hair-helmet looked better on you :)

  • I may get one of those hats, but I am not sure if I should get a Langster to wear it on. Any thoughts.

    Yes get a langsterzzzzzz.

  • not a repost for me, but still the dumbest shit i've ever seen

  • I dont understand all these helmets that look like hat things, you either wear one or you dont, does it matter if you looks Slightly stupid?? i personally think normal helmets look absolutely fine.

  • a couple days ago I was out riding with the missus, while heading back to the flat, a bloke on a chrome langster overtook us, as he was passing my missus, she turn her head to check behind her and suddenly burst out laughing unintentionally at the helmet the bloke on the langster was wearing; it was those Yakkay's Paris helmet.

Naturally, that cyclist got annoyed and end up trying to RLJ away from us in annoyance.

the fact that she burst out laughing after seeing the helmet is enough evidence that they look shit.

I think any man would want to quickly disappear if a woman look at his helmet and then burst out laughing........

  • The reason I posted this is because I have a client in Copenhagen who cycles to work wearing this... she thought people were smiling at her and after a few weeks, she now realises they are laughing at her!
Personally, I think one should wait for a Rapha version

  • Are they for horses or bicycles?

    you put helmets on horses?

    and bicycles?

    you still never wear one.
    :P

  • fail

  • they are not cheap. We (, cycle chic) tend to sell more over seas. I think they're more suited for sit and beg types as there are not enough vents for sweaty noggin like myself.

  • I imagine theres a bigger market for these in places where wearing a helmet is law?
Greater number of casual cyclists not wanting to look overly keen.

Would buy a tweed flatcap version if i had to tho

  • This just reminds me of that Only Fools and Horses where Del Boy is trying to sell turban horse riding helmets for Sekhs to use a motor bike helmets.

My 2 cents is helmets don't look cool, they'll never look cool, deal with it.

  • If you are going to wear a helmet you may as well wear one that is as Giger-esque as possible.

It's not a wooly hat after all, so as many vents as possible and as little weight as possible are the way forward.

+1 I sweat like a whore in church/scouser in Dixons/a gimp in a sauna, etc.. even wearing a Giro Ionis....

but my 3yr old daughter would no doubt love the pink design above.

  • Sweating like a pig in a wetsuit is to be avoided.

I have a Gore skull cap thing to wear underneath my helmet when it gets to Brass Monkey season.

I may switch to a cycling cap just to fit in however.

Doesnt hat Giger guy work for MET.

Have glued my crashed helmet (strap fittings) for now. But might buy a strad II if its comfy with + without winter layers under.

  • In Praise of Helmets!

I Was riding home from work at 0715 this morning, at a busy traffic light controlled junction, it had been raining and the road was really greasy from the rain and the inevitable diesel spills, in a cycle lane to beat the lights. In their infinite wisdom, my local council has decide to mark the juntion with those stupid cobblestones. The front wheel just went from under me, and slid to the kerb, where i surfed down along the kerb on my side, head bouncing on the floor, feet still clipped into the pedals until I ended up wrapped around the traffic light post. Got up, all embarressed, hopped on the bike and rode the final 4 miles home, feeling a bit sore. To cut this story short, I've not long got back from the Walk in Centre, after being x-rayed and finding out I semi-dislocated my shoulder, and neck whiplash, and will be very stiff and sore for a week or 2. Got a fair bit of gravel rash down my side (funny how my clothes are untouched!). [B]My helmet (Met Styx) looks like it's been dragged under a JCB, but I never felt a thing on my head- if I wasn't wearing it, I'd probably be in hospital still. **I@m telling the kids when they get back from school, if I ever catch them without helmets again, I'm scrapping their bikes!
    TFS!

  • what do you guys think of this?

    http://www.cutegadgets.co.uk/ignite_d3o_beanie.htm

d3o in a cycling hat? yeeeah boy

The video on that site is funny. I don't think some guy spanking me with a spade would ever replicate flying through the air and hitting my head against a curb at 20mph, however it is quite interesting to see where this kind of technology is going. Before long they'll be genetically engineering this stuff into our skin, and we'll all be indestructible :P

But until that day I'll stick with my proper bike helmet. As it says on the site: "D3O does not conform to any safety standards and should not be worn in place of a helmet."

  • Don't normally use a helmet, but when I did it was a Giro Flak:

If I was going to get a new one it'd be the Bern Watts:

same here, had the flak, gave it to a mate when i got my bern...

    bought it from http://www.powerkiteshop.com/bern_watts_helmet.htm

    did as they said;

Measure around you head using a tape measure around the temple of your head.

    fits fine...

  • Got a giro monza from my LBS and its the most comfortable ive ever worn

  • well from my experience the bern runs true to size

they dont appear to make one big enough for your head...

My head is huge. It goes off most scales, measuring at 63 - 64 cm (depending on air pressure / tidal motion).

Hence the need to try before I buy, as even XXL sizes that claim to be big enough, seldom are big enough.

  • So anyone know Bern stockists in London??

All I can find is http://www.cyclechic.co.uk/content/ and you have to book an appointment..

  • Hmmm..... not looked at it from another road users point of view....

"A recent study in England has indicated that automobile drivers drive more dangerously near bicycle drivers who wear helmets than near those without helmets. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/somerset/5334208.stm Another observation in the study is that car drivers give long haired girls more leeway than other bicycle drivers."

This is the most ridiculous survey i have ever heard of, people have quoted this to me before.
So your going to listen to a pointless bunch of students and the information they compiled to make a decision on your safety. get real
