    • motorbike accident with a guy not wearing a helmet, ouch!

don't click if you are eating

Man that is fucked up. I was debating getting a helmet the other day, I'm seriously thinking about it now

  • haha! i just saw this on some design blog... so... um ... yeah ...

    um... yeah.... er ...

  • This is excellent.

Just looked for the blog link. Here it is:

  • I got one of them light/small Vietnamese moped helmets while in Ho Chi Minh City. Seem light and sturdy enough.

  • another good reason for wearing a helmet:

    amazing.

  • did you read the comments after that article, matt?
    nutters!

  • i know. only in america huh? hah! i love how they sotp spellin rite and HOLLA BIG ASS STATEMENTS!!! hahaha! fucking nuts. haha!

  • hehe.

"This guy is unreal, I am once again speechless. That little boy had to be traumatized terribly to see this happen to his Dad. Once again - another reason I am armed. You never know when a BIZZARE situation is going to unfold ON you, AROUND you, in front of you. I will not be a statistic."

That has to be a pisstake.

  • I look like a prize bellend if i wear most helmets (or cycling caps) so I'm of the impression that sweaty windswept hair is a lot better look for me.

Have had more accident's due to toe overlap than i have cars...

  • My mate has such a big head he had to get a ladies lid, the ones for chicks with ponytails... ha ha.

  • Woman takes Australia to court or something about plastic hats or something.

  • it'd be interesting to see how she does but she hasn't really shown what her evidence is to back up her claim that wearing a helmet can cause 'severe brain injury'

Also that www.cycle-helmets.com is pretty crazy (it reads a bit like those 9/11 conspiracy sites). I hope she didn't base her 'research' on this website alone.

Also I doubt this is true:
*Undoubtedly, Australia has the worst public cycling participation rate in the world, and instead, has ignorantly embraced the greatest health risk of them all - inactivity.*

  • Australia was the fattest nation in the world wasn't it, until recently?

    I like Sue's style.

    Yep. Didn't know that.

I still doubt they have the 'worst public cycling participation rate in the world' though. When I was in Oz I saw tons of cyclists. Not so much in Sydney or the countryside (or pretty much all of QLD) but the other cities and large towns had plenty of cyclists. Even Darwin had a few (although they weren't going very fast but then who can cycle fast in 40+ heat).

  • Having bounced off the road on my head on Sunday, I'm considering replacing my lid. I realise this is one of those 'what colour should I paint my bathroom' questions, and that I should try before I buy. But I dont really have access to many different models to try out so wondered if anyone had any info/experiance of these.

Catlike Vacuum - Looks like its designed to disperse washing powder, but has had good reviews for comfort, coolness, and quality.
    £70

Casco Ares - Like the looks, and the lid is super high tech. Dont know much about Casco though.
    £85

Met Stradivarius 199UL - Cool italian looks and super light.
    £90

Spuik Daggon - Nice looking (possibly lowest mushroom head factor of the lot), quite light, decent ventilation.
    £85

    Cheers m'dears

It all about the purple helmet.

Giro Atmos is really good for cooling: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Giro_Atmos_Helmet/5360032491/

Comes in lots of colours too.

  • Can you not try before you buy? If so, buy the one that fits.

I'm a bit cut off from decent bike shops. I have seen he Spiuk (for around £160 FFS), so I can try that one (then buy online).
But spotted the MET on the same site for the bargin price.
The casco came up because it ws on a german site I use for tyres (cheap schwalbe).
The catlike is just weird looking but gets great reviews for a lid in my price range.

I'll try the Spiuk and go from there.

  • catlike whisper 100notes from prendas

  • ^ I'm more of a Kompact Pro man myself. Anyone considering the Whisper should know that they've fucked up the sizing of the medium helmets...

Casco are very high quality but their sizing seems odd. I bought Casco Attack off Corny which fitted neither of us, socialamnesia has it now.

However, helmet sizing varies wildly and it's hard to know if one fits unless you actually try it. I tried on a Giro Atmos recently and it didn't fit despite being the same size and from the same manufacturer as my existing helmet.

  • I really don't like the looks of the Casco.

I'd go for the Spiuk over the others.
