i would like to know what happened with the whole thing because it's funny the way they closed down in the middle of the whole fixed gear hipster fad

Had some work done on a frame down there a while ago.

a shop owner in that same bank of shops who i speak with regularily assured me that the sale of the building was going through. The cycle shop on tanners hill is no longer.
this has been posted before but its so sad seeing this and knowing now what was to become of the marque. BDW should be allowed to go at TM with a chater lea crank arm.

Can someone give me the full run down on Tony Malone - i gather he is a cunt from all the threads, but who is he, and how to get to fuck up so many good things?

OK so the shop / workshop is sold.
Where is Barrie repairing? Does Mario have a workshop?
-
• #282
mario as in Vaz?
-
• #283
Yep.
-
• #284
yeah Mario has a workshop, but I thought his brother did repairs as he worked at Roberts. Someone should get try and get hold of Barrie and find out what the deal is. Sounds like he got scammed
-
• #285
Well. Like I said up there already^ Barrie is *allegedly *repairing for Mario (I heard this from two Lewisham locals from this here forum). That would fit in with another hearsay that Mario's brother has not been working due to illness...
-
• #286
hope he is still working, Barrie did some work for me in the past , he is an artist
-
• #287
I heard that Barrie has retired to ride his bike more.
My guess is that the whole tony malarky gave Barrie an early retirement option - it must have been absolutely sickening for the family to see their firm eventually disappear in a cloud of tony's bs, but it can't have been making much money at all. So, on balance, getting a chunk of unexpected cash, and early retirement, in exchange for the firm must have been a good deal for Barrie.
I also heard that he's still doing bits and bobs (but not wanting to be to busy) alongside Ron Cooper.

From the above website.
"Together with my own companies, I have been involved with visual and theoretical communications for over 10 years with companies, organisations, multinationals and producers and local companies, helping them ostricize the loyal customers and increase their prices to unsustainable levels to kill off any chance of them having a future".
This guy really does need to fucking do one!

lol.
but the sad demise of Witcomb cycles is not so funny.
Was that actually a web-site? Unavailable now.

What's the general consensus on frame quality circa 2008 then?

I would of hoped Barrie and Ernie got a nice pay off from Malone, and are having a good retirement somewhere. If true, I really hope Barrie is just doing it to keep himself busy.
If Malone shafted them, count me in for a tarring and a feathering of Mr Diversity-brockley-sherriff

Didn't he move to Wales? A trading estate in Pebrokeshire?
Tea. But not as you know it.
All those welsh farmers, killing of the sheep to plant tea and supply Tony's new business.
"Pembrokeshire has a great climate for growing tea," said co-founder Tony Malone. "Located under the Atlantic jet stream we have mild humid summers and mild winters, and a lot of rain, perfect for tea growing." -

Conversational marketing consultant
Is this serious?
Really?I mean, not even under the Blair/Brown facade was this ever going to slip through. It's much worse than saying "waste management operative" for bin-man, at least the bin man has and does an actual job.
brand engineer.
Again, come on. Not everybody was born yesterday!

SAD NEWS PEOPLE
i just found out that on saturday of last week the shop was cleared of all its bits and bobs which included unused 531 frame tubes, drop outs some frames , rims still in their wrapping paper, work stands, display cabinets and loads of other things. most of it would have been taken to the local scrap metal dealers. the clothing, the old rusty hetchings, barries old white track bike - what became of them hopefully not to the same place :-(
out of curiosity i just went to the shop and peered through the little letterbox size light holes that form part of the metal shutters and the shop is completely bare and painted white. where the old posters of merckx, zoetemelk and hinault forging their way up mountain passes or crossing finishing lines arms aloft is now a big fat nothing. it is so sad.
for quite some time i knew from the neighbour that since it closed all the stock had remained in the shop just as it was, but thought it better to not advertise the fact. i didnt think that its end would have been like that,,,, loaded on to the back of a lorry for the scrap metal dealer.later i will take a picture of the front of the shop before they paint over the racing cyclists that have been there as far back as i can remember.
R.I.P. witcomb
Possibly. Maybe it has been sold and Barrie's working elsewhere, maybe it hasn't. Looked shut up last time I went past, but nothing removed like signage or what have you. I saw a middle-aged woman going in there.
